2002 Alfa Romeo Spider For Sale

Are these able to be brought into the States?

I swear I had seen one at one time here, but I was on a lot of pain meds in those days and may be mistaken.

One of those showed up at a Delaware Valley AROC event a few years back. My niece worked for a company in Baltimore that federalized high end Euro imports but the owner of the one I saw wasn't really clear on what he did to get it into the country and then titled and tagged. I don't think you can call it a series 5 because it didn't share anything with the previous models we all know and love.

For Canada, the car must be 15 years or older, so that means 1997 model or older.

That's ok with me since in 1997, Alfa introduced the 3.0L V6 24valve option!

But that 2002 is beautiful.

There are lots for sale in Europe from € 1600 to € 14500 (export out of EU)

Mind you that the 4 cyl. versions use a different engine than the 105/115 Spiders. The V6s and gear box are the same as in 164s. Did the US get the 24 valve 164s? There was a Coupe GTV as well.

NB! I believe that I've read somewhere that Alfa had 916 Spiders authorized by US authorities before leaving the US.

During the '80s, the exchange rate was very favorable to the dollar. As a result, there were many military members buying Porches, MB, etc and having them converted when shipped back to the States. Of course the import car dealers in the US didn't like that very much, and lobbied for really strict rules that pretty much put the kibosh on the whole idea.

I bought a Euro spec motorcycle and they took it out of my shipment at Long Beach. The bonded importer who had it was on his last legs, and had a very low care factor. I held out $500 and said, "Will this get it into the States?" He said yep and pencil whipped it. I didn't have any trouble registering it, and sold it to an individual later.

Moral of the story... I could have been screwed at the port, but got lucky. After I got it in, there was no problems. But that was back in the 80s. Your mileage may vary.

in Italy when they list parts for the 916 spider they invariably call it the "Nuovo spider".
It is not bad, but it doesn't look like the original spider in any shape or form, so imo has no claim to being called series 5 spider.

You can pick up a pretty good one here in twin spark form for a few grand, fairly easily....they are everywhere.
Not my cup of tea tbh.

LHD or RHD?

All the LHD I have seen come out of Japan.

Vin,

I've seen a fair number of LHD 916s offered for sale in Quebec, most looking like they were originally German market cars. Asking prices range from $10-17k.

Haven't driven one, but at least on paper/in pictures, not my cup 'o tea.
