You are totally correct. I posted the wrong photo where it was not aligned on the base of the cam on the right side.

 

102 was the stock ex timing for the SPICA cars except 75-76 which were 114 - according to the Shankle manual.

Nicer than my old aluminum ones with stamped marks! I need 2!

 

I'll take a set of these either in aluminum or wood. Verify the marks without removing the caps. Would prefer aluminum.

I have the factory tool for the other style.

I am refreshing this thread as I need to make a fresh batch if these stainless steel timing cards. As of 8/12/2021.

They are precision laser cut and feature the same timing marks as the (printed) paper Shankle design used to check and scribe new marks. The full set includes 2 pairs of cards, one in the conventional under cap style and another that can be placed over the camshaft without removing the cam cap.

A full set of 4 (both pairs) is $50, or I will set a pair of either style for $30. $4 to ship domestically, international shipping varies between $13 and $20.

Here is an early protoype of the over cam version in play. This is a head from an 1981 Spider (with intake timing of 118 degrees). I think it is more suited for setting the cam and checking the timing than it is verifying the cam cap marks as it is hard to see through the gap. I played with the idea of a transparent acrylic version, but it was too brittle (poly-carbonate does not cut well on a laser). I think this style in conjunction with the other would be the complete package. Beyond that you should be using a degree wheel.

The final will have an extended base to be more stable on the gasket surface of the head.
