Clutch Replacement

I am surprised this hadn't been posted previously. A very long but highly informative and super illustrated thread posted by Gadwhite giving a step by step process for pulling the gearbox, installing a new clutch, flywheel resurfacing, and replacing all the other things while you're there on a Series 3. It applies to the all Spiders S2-S4.

Along with head gasket replacement, surely a rite of passage for an Alfisto.

Mystery Solved: B&D

Bit of work with the magnifying glass showed a small bit of wear which indicated where the spring had been. A bit of trial and error sortred it out. The pictures below may be of the different catch from the one above. The purpose of the spring is to keep the "locking" lever either in its fully unlocked position or its fully locked.

S3 Auxillary fan sensor

Photo of the fan shroud temperature sensor/thermal switch that turns on the aux fan that's in front of the radiator (the one that comes on with AC)

It mounts in/on the upper right corner of the mechanical/belt driven fan shroud.

Testing can be accomplished by using a heat gun or the like and applying it the flat metal face. When it gets warm enough, the fan will kick on, then as the sensor cools the fan will shut off automatically.

The key need not be on, and it it actually this device that causes the fan to run for a bit after the engine is shut off.

NOTE: This is schematic diagram item #7 in post #76 of this FAQ designated as 'fan after run heat sensor'
Pic curtesy of RDWizard:

I am looking all over for this sensor, as mine has gone bad (88spider) engine is overheating ! Where can a find one or a brand that matches the original? no luck on ebay or alfa part sites...is there a sensor that will work ?
this should work…

Vacuum manifold pressure sensor in L-jet

Link to a fine thread by boardmember he3r0 in which he opened up and made effective repairs to the hard to find and uber expensive to replace pressure sensor that's part of the L-jetronic's motronic ignition system.

Also includes info from other members who effected repairs by different means than soldering.

Hydraulic bleed screw specs

In case someone needs to replace the bleeders for whatever reason, or are looking for size specs to install speedbleeders or the like.

Front: M8 x 1.25 pitch thread, *overall length 1 5/8", length of thread only (not tip or nut, just threads) 5/8"
Rear: M7 x 1. pitch, OAL 1 3/16", LOT 5/16"
Clutch slave: M6 x 1. pitch, OAL 1 3/8", LOT 7/16"

*note that these are a bit on the long side and protrude quite a bit, so shorter can be done with no issue.
