Testing L-Jet air flow meter (AFM) with a multimeter

The 5 contacts at the harness plug point are as follows:
1) temp sensor 1 1st wire
2) potentiometer contact 1 to pcb
3) potentiometer contact 2 to pcb
4) potentiometer center contact for sweep arm
5) temp sensor 1 2nd wire

Using a digital multimeter set on impendance, the following results should be achieved across the various contacts.

1~5 (taken at 70 deg/F) 2.98 K ohms
Spec for temp sensor 1 is 68F 2.2-2.8 K ohms, 104F 1.05-1.35 K ohms, 176F 270-380 ohms.

2~3 220 ohms

2~4 (flap closed) .5 K ohms
2~4 (flap full open) 275 ohms

3~4 (flap closed) 335 ohms
3~4 (flap full open) 50 ohms

*Note that there will be some small degree of error from one AFM to another based on wear and tear, carbon track condition and the specific orientation of the PCB to the sweep arm. Ambient temperature will obviously effect temp sensor 1.

Nor will these numbers tell you if there is a 'dead spot' in the carbon tracking.

Simply put, these amount to a quick check to allow testing to see if an AFM has all it's connections functional and putting out to some degree of accuracy in the event you don't have access to the uber expensive and really hard to find Bosch test kit, a spare AFM to swap in and try, are trying to figure out if that AFM on the shelf in your buddies garage is there for a reason other than dust collection, or perhaps trying to find a different sized AFM to swap on for more intake airflow.

AC maintenance

Post with a scan of the shop manual regarding series 3 spider (possibly other models also) air conditioner/conditioning maintenance, including belt tension adjustment with the split crank pulley.

S2 dash warning lights ~ lamps

Thread containing an informational description / purpose of the 4 lights in the upper center console triple gauge cluster area on Series 2 spiders.

Important to know in general, even moreso if using the SPICA fuel system.

Bumper Conversion Mysteries Revealed!

Well, almost. After scouring dozens of old posts on the subject of converting 75-82 Spiders ( and later ones too) to stainless bumpers, this thread has the best information concerning making your own conversion brackets: http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/spider-1966-up/41644-another-bumper-question.html


These brackets appear to be very similar to the ones being sold by Spider Point and other vendors.

Setting up a manually operated AAV ~ auxillary air valve using Advance Auto part # 74627 (comes in plastic or metal, either will do) and a common manual choke cable kit so you don't have to spend hundreds of $$ on a replacement AAV.

Fitting headlight covers onto series 3 and series 4 spiders

A good example of what needs to be done to get the carello headlight covers onto the later series that they don't normally fit.

Post with pictures showing the casting differences between the late limited slip differential vs the earlier open differential that may be of use for quick~n~easy identification rather than taking a PO's word for it.

Series 3 dual pod center console

Post with pix of early ('82~'85) series 3 center consoles with and without air conditioning that shows the difference in the console side panels, cigarette lighter area and the under-dash on passenger side.
