Does anyone own a Metallic Olive Green (Verde olivia metallizzato) GTV, preferably 2000? I'm reconsidering the color choice for my 73 GTV resto (biancospino) on account of having bought a white 911 3.2 and (unrelated) starting to see my car for what it is; a product of the 70's not 60's. I realize that a lot of my color reference pictures are from stepnose cars, and while the body & accent lines are not that different in the later cars, the interior is significantly different and part of me doesn't want to fight the 70's but to embrace it. So one of my look and feel references are contemporaneous Montreals such as the attached. I really love unusual, grow-on-you colors. I was dead set on getting a 911 in a really great weird color and was hearbroken when an Oak Green Metallic with Nato Green leather interior slipped thru my hands. I love the white/red leather car I ended up with but it does make me want some hue on the GTV.

I'm also curious to know if anyone knows of GTVs that were painted in Montreal colors from the factory, which I hear was done on special request (in principal) but have no evidence to substantiate this.

So if you have an AR213 car, please share pictures! Especially if for some reason ended up with a black interior, which I know was never offered from the factory but I have already re-upholstered my interior (and did a pretty good job I think) in black vinyl. I didn't initially consider AR213 on account of my interior - the olive looks great with a warm interior as the factory knew - but I'm starting see the appeal of a black interior with olive, it has a sort of military aspect to it which I like. The value of AR213 is relatively light and should work with a black interior better than say Verde Pino which would look terrible with black in my opinion.
Curious to hear what color you ended up with. I'm a fan of the metallic olive green, too.

r-mm....holy geez that is an inspiration. Whenever I end up finding my car I'll drive over to CT and buy you beers to hear the stories on the Alfa as well as the upcoming 912. Love the color you chose as well

Appreciate the compliment. You are most welcome to stop by, I'm not far from New Haven on the shoreline. I just had a contingent of NJ Alfisti stop by and we had a lot of fun talking shop in the garage.

Count me in for the first "longish" road trip once I get my Alfa boots on the ground!

Hi there, did you ever get the car painted in this colour? I would love to see pictures as I have more or less decided to get my Montreal painted in this color. Thanks Chris

This was my 1974 GTV.

This is a great reference for any car and Alfa in particular.

Blair,

That looks terrific. Some modern interpretations of AR 213 look too bright, a bit over done but yours looks just right to me.

Do you know what paint brand/formulation was used?

My Berlina's paint sticker isn't of much use. No one can track down a formula for it.

Cheers,

Paul.

Thanks Paul

I had Paul Rankin down in Bayswater, Vic do the bodywork and paint on my car. When I bought it the paint was maybe 10-15yrs old and looked ok from a distance but the car had a full thick coat of old filler under the paint, lots of dodgy old repairs and rust in all the usual places. The paint was also a bit "disco", the colour a bit bright, the metallic a bit coarse and glittery.

We didn't paint the engine bay because it was still original so we were able to use that to colour match as a starting point. We did a lot of sample spays and ended up going with a Glasurit formulation because it was the smoothest in terms of the metallic and didn't have the dark flop some of the others had. Perhaps what I ended up doing was replicating a slightly faded 50yo paint colour but as a shiny version - but I'm really happy with it. Paul did a great job and to me it looks a bit refined and understated, just how I wanted it.

Thanks for the info & pics (especially the ones in the booth, exquisite!) Blair.

Yeah, might chase the Glasurit formula down one day. Had a guy at the auto shop mix me a spray can off the formula they had in their system and its pretty close. I've got the numbers for it stored somewhere.
Quality work (as always) from Rankin's workshop, he's darn good. I've always loved this colour. We lived across the road from some tennis courts and the saturday instructor drove a 2L GTV with momo mags and in this olive metallic colour. I couldn't keep my eyes off it. He wouldn't sell (asked him numerous times), I don't blame him i guess!

I'd be out in the driveway washing my Giulia sedan whilst my eyes were fixed on that car! Wonder what ever happened to it ....

Cheers.
