Found another super-cheap spider in New Hampshire at Dusty OLD Cars. 1985, S3. Needs paint. A little rusty. $3995.00 ??!! Are S3 spiders really that un-loved?

1985 Alfa Romeo Veloce 2Ltr 5 spd man | Nashua NH 03063

No connection with the seller. Just thought I'd post it.

Thanks,

Scott

With that rust, by California standards that's a high price. I'd guess full rockers needed plus probably a lot of the floors, which shows some nonfactory work already. In populous areas, my sense is it's a buyer's market for Bosch Spiders.

If anyone wants a 1985 spider graduate I have one for sale, black with burgundy interior. Runs great, I have done a lot of work to it, engine rebuilt, new paint, all synchros excellent. Needs a new top at some point but it still works. Have some spare stuff too, top cover in burgundy and other items. Has a salvage title but runs straight and true. Only damage was a drivers rear quarter which has been repaired to excellent standards. In the Bay Area, $5000. PM me

I tend to think the S3 are the least loved Spiders right now. There's not much you can do with the bumpers (like replacing them with earlier SS bumpers), the EFI is getting kind of long on the tooth and they're not rare. OTOH, it's still an Alfa, lots of mechanics can work on the EFI (certainly compared to SPICA) and there are always a bunch of parts available all of which makes it a bargain for a first time buyer.

I would think $4k would get you a top example. This one is far from the top.

S3 are great if you just need a touring Alfa..86-89. 90 has Motronic so usually a bit more. Down on power, too much electronic and, as mentioned, not much you can improve cosmetically.
If I were looking for a rust free and reasonable price then the West Coast, particularly the Bay Area, is a great source. Even with shipping it's a good buy. An Alfa that can pass CA emissions is likely to pass any other state requirements. It's not going to get you a lot of "thumbs up". It's a very civilized Alfa that can be had with a full slate of convenience options. Drive it until it drops, part it out and go buy another.
Cheers, Jon

Well if you Google 'dusty old cars', you will get some interesting reading. The business is being liquidated under court supervision. The remaining cars may be returned to the consigning owners, if they can found. The owner is charged with massive fraud. The most recent article made a comparison to Madoff.

I am only a couple of miles from the warehouse.

Might be a good idea to stay clear of that mess.

I hate it when these larger classic car places go out of business for whatever reason. There really aren't that many places left to find restorable cars. But you are right about this place. Sounds like hey got greedy or desperate.
