GTAm #26 Monza 1973

Does anyone have any information on the class winning #26 GTAm under Regvart/Lang at Monza 1973, pictured and captioned in both Tabucchi GTA books. Prepared by Balduzzi according to Tabucchi.

History before and after, other drivers, other race numbers and serial number.

Regards

Ken

Hello Ken,

I do not know the chassisnumber of this 2000 GTAm but I do know that Regvart/Nosse again raced the 4 hours of Monza in 1974. Regvart also raced GTA 1300 Junior before he switched to 2000 GTAm. NSU, Fiat, VW and Ford were other marques he raced before and after the 2000 GTAm.

Alfa Romeo results:

16.4.1972 ETCC Salzburgring [Div.2+3]
#? Alfa Romeo 1300 GTA Junior Drago Regvart DNF

21.5.1972 2 h Brno [Div.1]
#68 Alfa Romeo 1300 GTA Junior Drago Regvart DNA

25.3.1973 4 h Monza
#26 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTAm Regvart / Lang 7th

24.3.1974 4 h Monza
#? Alfa Romeo 2000 GTAm Regvart / Nosse 9th

I also found other pictures which could be connected to Drago Regvart. The text with the first picture mentions the car being a GTA 2000(?). The car in the second picture looks more like a 2000 GTAm and mentions Balduzzi on the side of the car.
If you google Drago Regvart and look for pictures, you will find a lot more.

Thanks Olaf,

I am trying to find info on that #26 GTAm as I have an obscure reference connecting Drago Regvart and hence maybe it, #26, to the GTAm that Canadian Frank Marino crashed at Sanair 1974. The Marino GTAm was used when bought from Autodelta in 1973 and it apparently landed in Canada a month or so after the 1973 Monza race.

Attached is a report of the crash. I'll attach a better picture of the crashed GTAm when I find it.

Probably need to track down Regvart, Lang and Balduzzi as a picture record would be difficult to tie cars together; or find an Autodelta record of car usage.

Hello Ken,

That is probably the best thing to do. I do not have any further information.

Hello members,

I thought it was time to make a new compilation of the information that we have gathered so far.

Definition:
But first an addition to definition of what a GTAm is.
As already said the GTAm was an Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV that was converted by Autodelta to GTAm specification. The homologation papers specify what changes could be made.
Along with the type 1750 GTV USA (105.51) some type 1750 GTV EU (105.44) have also been converted (standing and hanging pedals).
The same goes for some type 2000 GTV?s (hanging pedals).
Besides that, UlrichGTA told me that in Germany some GT 1300 Junior cars have been converted to GTAm because the GT 1300 Junior was lighter.
Difficulty with the GTAm is, that it never had a unique type- and chassisnumber. This is unlike the type GTA (105.32 LHD and 105.34 RHD) and type GTA 1300 Junior (105.59).

Variants:
Then there are variants within the different types:
  • new cars from the production line converted to GTAm spec's by Autodelta as Autodelta works cars
  • new cars from the production line converted to GTAm spec's by Autodelta as Autodelta customer cars
  • existing cars converted to GTAm spec's by Autodelta as Autodelta customer cars
  • new or existing cars converted to GTAm spec's by other tuners/teams with a combination of Autodelta, Angelini, Balduzzi and other parts like the Balduzzi cars (Tony Adriaensens mentions this in his book)
  • new or existing (replacement) bodyshells with or without a chassisnumber that were equipped with Autodelta, Angelini, Balduzzi and other parts (for example from wrecked cars)
  • other variants on this theme in various stages of tune
On the bulletin board, there is a list of options for your GTAm. Have a look at post #9 in this thread: http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/giu...-1975/166527-can-anyone-tell-me-differences-between-1969-105-series-2-gtam.html

A lot of GTAm's will have been updated during and after their racing life, engines and gearboxes were swapped, they have been restored, etc ..... And some of these cars had great palmares while others were less fortunate.

Copies:
Besides that, there are a lot of copies with various stages of tune with less or more original GTAm parts. Have a look around on alfabb and you will see a lot of GTV's being changed into GTAm copies. Some of them are very nice and well built.

Hello members,

Don Best pointed us in the direction of GTAm 1530038 in one of his posts. There was some discussion about a typo concerning this chassisnumber.

Have a look at this post: http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/alf...rums/alfa-romeo-cars-sale-wanted/174983-update-incredible-collection-italy.html and this link: Private Collection

This car is said to have been an Autodelta GTAm, ex-chiapparini and part of the Rosso Bianco collection. Is the chassisnumber of this car reading #1530038 or #1530938? If it is #1530938, it is already listed as an original Autodelta GTAm. If this is #1530038 there are questions to be answered.

Martinue, you thought it was a typo. Can you comment on that?

Ciao, Olaf

Hello Martinue,

Thank you for the response. I changed my previous post because if I look closely at the picture of the chassisnumber, it isn't clear to me if this car is #1530038 or #1530938.

Martin, I noticed that the Tabucchi overview does not list the cars mentioned in 'Alleggerita' unless Tabucchi also confirmed them? Cars like #1530848 with which Toine Hezemans drove in the Netherlands are not mentioned. Can you tell us why? The list you showed us is from 1996, 2 years after the publication of 'Alleggerita' and 'Alfa Romeo GTA'.
And what do you think of the cars that were not mentioned in Tabucchi's list?

These are the cars from the book 'Alleggerita' by Tony Adriaensens that I do not see in the list in the previous post:

#1530834
#1530840
#1530841
#1530848
#1531210
#1531230

Chassis Number

I believe the correct chassis number is 1530938. A magnified picture of the firewall stamping looks more like 1530938 than 1530038. Also the bad scan Martinue posted would put 1530938 in numerical sequence in the list of chassis numbers. The bad scan is also suspect in that the Targa numbers are incomplete- missing digits.

Now if I only had more space and a lot more cash...

Don

Hello Don,

Thank you for your response! Yes, the 'bad scan' that Martin showed us, does help in finding out how some chassisnumbers were introduced in the GTAm sequence. Looking closer, I also tend to think it is a '9' rather than a '0' in the chassisnumber #1530938.
This car is supposed to be the ex-Autodelta, ex-Chiapparini and ex-Rosso Bianco car. In the pictures that I took in the Rosso Bianco museum about 12 years ago, I can't find a picture of this car. Is there somebody that has a picture of this car at any type during its life?

And I agree; 'if I only had more space and a lot more cash...'

Hi,

I Look at this thread off and on so not completely up to speed on GTAm but note that there must also be a TYPO in the first Serial number listed in Martins 2 lists, as they are almost the same in the detail but first list has 1530671 and second has 1530871. This has probably already been noticed but if not there it is.

Where are these list from?

My 1994 edition GTA by Tabuchhi has a GTAm list but not this one. He does list 1530671.

FWIW

Hello Ken,

You are right, Ken. The chassisnumber should read #1530671. In that post Martin showed us how some of the typo's came into being. Have a look at Martin's post again and distinguish the 1st 'good' list from the 2nd 'bad' list. You will see that other typo's were made also.

Wasn't there a Swedish GTAm - the Topcon cameras sponsored car? I believe it is mentioned in John Tiplers book on coupes and GTAs. Do you already have it on your list above?

Hello Scuderia Svezia,

Thank you for the addition. As I recall, there was/were swedish GTA's with Topcon livery. I do not know of a GTAm with this livery, but I can't check that right now because I am not at home. Could you upload the picture of the car that you mean?

Ciao, Olaf
