Licenseplate MI M48973

Gracias Olaf,
I just became a member of Alfistas.com.
Hopefully I will be able to track down Juncadella.
Do you think the license plate from Ronny's photo, is the same car?
Regards, Alberto
Hello Alberto,

MI M48973 is #1532022 if my information is correct but I am not 100% sure. This chassisnumber was added by Tabucchi to his later list of GTAm's.
MI K97829 is an early GTAM that was driven in the Monte Carlo Rally in 1971 but the chassisnumber isn´t 100% clear to me yet. Facts have to be checked. Do you have suggestions? Maybe the members from alfistas can tell us more?

Ciao, Olaf

Same car

Hello members,

Some interesting GTAm's from the seventies!

Ciao, Olaf
And here is, what looks like, the same car at Bressanone in 1977 with Massa behind the wheel. Is it possible that a car keeps the same livery during 5 years?

Ciao! Olaf

Hello Olaf,
Thank you for the info.
As far as 'Alfistas', they were rather disappointing, doubted my car and were not overall extremely polite, unlike this group.
I was truly surprised by their skepticism and when I voiced my issues, they actually posted crying 'smilies', and suggested cheesiness on my part.

I think I will rather continue on with a group that is respectful yet challenging and has never acted in an unbecoming fashion.
Alba.bb, is the best.

Regards, Alberto
PS. I will update photos of the GTAm on the 1532307 thread.

Hello Alberto,

On behalf of the alfabb community, thank you for the compliment. As many on this board have said earlier, researching the history of motorcars in general and Alfa Romeo´s in particular is not an exact science.
Even more so in the case of the GTAm.
Let us explore further and see what we find.

Ciao! Olaf

The latest list can be found in post #500 on page 25 of this thread.
See the link.

Hello members,

I thought it was time to make a new compilation of the information that we have gathered so far (22-04-2012). Thank you for all the members that contributed to this thread/database.

Definition:
But first a definition as to what a GTAm is.
As already said the GTAm was an Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV USA (105.51) that had Spica fuelinjection. It had two brake boosters and standing pedals. These cars were converted by Autodelta to GTAm specification. The homologation papers specify what changes could be made. Autodelta had a complete list of options to convert the car into a GTAm.
Along with the type 1750 GTV USA (105.51) some type 1750 GTV EU (105.44) have also been converted (standing and hanging pedals). The same goes for some type 2000 GTV?s (105.21) with hanging pedals and a single brakebooster.
Besides that, UlrichGTA told me that in Germany some GT 1300 Juniors (105.30) have been converted to GTAm because the GT 1300 Junior was lighter.
Difficulty with the GTAm is, that it never had a unique type- and chassisnumber. This is unlike the type GTA (105.32 LHD and 105.34 RHD) and type GTA 1300 Junior (105.59).

Variants:
Then there are variants within the different types:
  • new cars from the production line converted to GTAm spec's by Autodelta as Autodelta works cars
  • new cars from the production line converted to GTAm spec's by Autodelta as Autodelta customer cars
  • existing cars converted to GTAm spec's by Autodelta as Autodelta customer cars
  • new or existing cars converted to GTAm spec's by other tuners/teams with a combination of Autodelta, Angelini, Balduzzi and other parts like the Balduzzi cars (Tony Adriaensens mentions this in his book)
  • new or existing (replacement) bodyshells with or without a chassisnumber that were equipped with Autodelta, Angelini, Balduzzi and other parts (for example from wrecked cars)
  • other variants on this theme in various stages of tune

Off course, a lot of GTAm's will have been updated during and after their racing life, engines and gearboxes were swapped, they have been restored, etc. For example; one car was used as a hillclimbcar and was therefore lightened and had a 2 litre 16 valve engine.

Modifications & Options:
There is a list with Autodelta modifications & options for your GTAm called "GTAm modifications & options for GTAm". You could choose from this to configure your own GTAm. Source of the list is the book ?Alleggerita? by Tony Adriaensens, published in 1994 by Corsa research. Here are the options:

  • Aluminium or steel or plastic doors and boot lid
  • Plastic hood and dashboard
  • Plexiglass door glass ? descending window or sliding window
  • Lightweight laminated Glaverbel windshield and rear window
  • Rear window also available in Plexiglass
  • Lightweight battery in trunk (Warley)
  • Anatomic racing seat ? Tipo 33 ? total weight 3 kg/6.6 lbs
  • Roll over protection cage
  • Leather rimmed racing (steering) wheel
  • FIA oil catch tank (1 litre)
  • Special rear axle locating system, sliding block
  • Fully modified differential housing including Pivot Pin and reinforcements
  • Steel torque Tee ? optional Unibal joints
  • Modified arms for rear stabiliser bar
  • Koni 220/85 shock absorbers
  • Modified front suspension
  • 26 mm front stabiliser bar
  • 18 mm rear stabiliser bar
  • Special close ratio gearboxes ? on demand Colotti T 118 gearbox (see Colotti)
  • ZF Autolock differential
  • Lightweight bell housing, gears and gear lever
  • Special lightweight racing or heavy duty rallye assembly clutch
  • Sebring front exhaust pipe
  • 100 litre fuel tank with racing cab
  • Special Autodelta patented 100 litre safety fuel tank
  • Reinforcements for oversize tank
  • Dual Bendix fuel pumps + Lucas main fuel pump
  • Special plumbing for dual fuel pumps
  • 'Serck? oil cooler
  • Electron alloy deep sump and protection shields
  • Modified oil pumps with, if necessary longer pickups for deep pan bottoms
  • Elaborated crankcase
  • Monosleeves
  • Special racing camshafts
  • Special racing pistons ? flat
  • Lightweight flywheel
  • Racing crankshafts
  • Special steel racing (connecting)rods; 0,740 kg/ 1.631 lbs
  • Special small cylinderhead ? valve angle 45 degrees ? with double ingnition
  • Guillotine throttle assembly for use with Spica or Lucas mk II
  • Fiberglass air box assembly with integral horns & nozzle holders
  • Spica or Lucas injection
  • 10.000 rpm rev-counter
  • Dinoplex electric ignition
  • Ventilated ATE front and rear discs with aluminium calipers
  • 13? Campagnolo magnesium wheels (from 7Lx13? to 10Lx13?) also 7Lx15? were available
  • Plastic front and rear fender flares to use with 13? wheels

On special demand:
  • 16 valve, single ignition cylinder heads approx. 240 hp
  • T64 braking torque differential

I doubt whether this list is fully complete. What about special Autodelta works engines? And the 16 valve exhaust manifold? The Colotti differential (see Colotti)? And what about other tuners such as Angelini with it's 2000cc 16 valve cylinderhead with Weber carburettors? Further specifications can be found in the homologation papers.

Copies:
Besides that, there are a lot of copies with various stages of tune with less or more original GTAm parts. Have a look around on alfabb and you will see a lot of GTV's being changed into GTAm copies. Some of them are very nice and well built.

Thank you and all members for making this possible

Olaf,

Thank you for the wonderfully compacted history of the GTAm.
This is a 'must' print fact sheet.

Kind regards, Alberto

PS If you are interested for your records, I own Jr.Z #327, 1600.
Hello Alberto,

Thank you and all members that contributed to this thread for making this summary possible!

Hi Olaf,
this is a late reply to your post. The car on the upper photo (white) was Autodelta rented 1750 GTAm (and returned at the end of the season), driven by Drago Regvart (EU champion in 73' in 2000 class gr.2) and the photo was taken at GP of Belgrade in 72'. Lower photo is 1300 GTAJ (red) bought at Santino Balduzzi's "officina" from Alberto Ponno driver at 70' (and wellknown painter today) by bosnian driver Sead Alihodjic, driven for 3 years, than sold (in very bad shape) to unknown croatian owner, and lost during the Balcan wars. In the late 60' and first 70', there were numerous GTAJ and GTAm (and no GTA) in ex Yugoslavia (Todorovic, Lang, Regvart, Strok, Visnjic, Perovic, Comnenovic, Nosse and others).

Time for an update

Dear members,

Having read through the 2nd version of `Alleggerita` it is time for an update of the info and the pictures. I hope to have the time to do this in the coming weeks. And thanks for the updates on the pictures!

Hi, As you seem to have some info about Drago Regvart on GTAm, I wonder if you could have a look at my post on page 7, post 102 and 104 to see if you can add any more info.

It occurs to me that I may be able to get the engine serial number as it may be the actual GTAm motor that was transfered from the wreck to the unnumbered replacement chassis.

Thanks and regards

Ken

I have had some private co-respondence with Borzacchini Jr and Martin and am still focusing on the 1973 Regvart Monza #26 GTAm as a possible GTAm that was shipped to Frank Martino of Montreal in 1973 and then later wrecked at Sanair.

I have now found the following pictures of this Regvart GTAm in common livery. With dates from 1971 to 1973 if properly attributed. I call this livery red and white with red racing stripe.

I am looking for more information, pictures etc about this GTAm.

Also would like to find its history before being leased/sold/or otherwise put into Revart's hands. That is to say its 1970 race history if any.

As yet I have not seen a rear view to determine which tail lights (small or large) it carried. I note it has the most common GTAm configuration of the lateral diagonal cage bar, starting high on the drivers side (left side) and falling to low to the right side. Some GTAm's have the opposite.

First picture Said #106 Regvart Belgrado 1971
Second Picture said Regvart Splato 1972
Third Picture said Regvart
fourth and Fifth Picture as #26 Monza 1973 Regvart/Lang

Is there any evidence of this livery of GTAm in Europe after Monza 1973.

Lacking any other strong evidence, for now, I consider the 1974 Regvart Monza GTAm to be a different GTAm.

To follow a couple of more pictures.

Ideas and help welcome.

Regards

Ken

More on Revart on GTAm

Note the Air dam in the last picture from 1973 Monza #26 Regvart/Lang .

While I have been sent most of these pictures by bb members. Many or all can be found at the following links:

Ex YU Racing: Na?i u ETCC-u 70ih godina

What laguage are those sites in as I may chose to use a internet translator for some of it?

I wonder if Drago Regvart is still alive and if he can be found for comment?

Air Damms on GTAj and GTAm

While on the 2 sites noted in my previous post, that focus on racing Alfas in the former Yugoslavia, I note a number of GTAj and GTAm from the former Yugoslavia carrying a particular style of air dam. I have perused Alleggerita 2 and not noticed that particular air dam in use in any of the pictures.

Was it made and used exclusively in the former Yugoslavia and by their drivers??

Note that Regvart's rides at Monza in both 1973 and 1974 carry this air dam but as it appears to be in common use by him and others I therefor do not conclude that those 2 Monza GTAms (with different livery) to be necessarily the same GTAm, on the bassis of that air dam alone.

First Picture Revart at Monza 1973
Second Picture Regvat at Monza 1974
3 to 5 other GTAj? with air dam

Regards

Ken
