Problems in shipping parts from Europe?

Has anyone else in the US been having any trouble with extraordinarily slow delivery from Europe? The reason I ask: 1) I was high bidder on some headlight buckets on eBay. 2) I placed an order with a parts supplier. Perhaps coincidentally, both transactions took place in mid-May. Both packages shipped from Germany. Neither package has yet arrived. I have used this parts supplier in the past and always had good service, and I have no reason to think the eBay seller hasn't shipped my package. (In contrast, an order placed with one of the suppliers in England was delivered within a few days.)

I'm trying to understand where the problem is, and where my packages are. It has been suggested that there is a bottleneck at US Customs. Does anyone know this to be the case, or know of some other reason why after a month and a half I still haven't received packages sent from Germany? Anyone having the same problem?

I know one German supplier (not OKP) who sells both in an online store and on eBay has repeatedly let me down during the last 3 months, despite e-mails and phone calls and promises that the stuff has been shipped and that I'll be e-mailed a tracking number. The only good news is that my credit card hasn't been billed either.

I ordered 3 months ago a mirror for my 164Q from a reputable supplier in Germany using DHL. The part never showed up and no one seems to know where it is. The guy was on the hook for finding me another one, and that wasn't all that easy. He made good on it, and has shipped me another one via DHL with a tracking number. We will see if IT shows up. Guess I am not the only one stuck with goods not showing up. :( Maybe I will get lucky and the 1st mirror will show up some day, if the log jam is in customs.

It's not just in the US.

I recieve packages from the UK in about 3 days down here in Oz.
Yet i'm still waiting for a tool after 6 weeks from hong kong, which is just over the northern horizon...

I have noticed that "normal" post gets in a heap quicker than "express" parcels do for some reason. Maybe that's the key.

I have had some weidness go on lately on european shipping. a couple of months ago I bought a pair of 48 cams from the guy on ebay from Italy. They arrived in decent time and I thought that was it. About a week ago, I recieved a wierd letter from UPS saying I owed ~10 bucks to customs. I haven't done anything about it thinking this is pretty strange and I'll wait on the second hardcore letter to explain whats going on. A couple of weeks ago, I ordered from Highwood in Britain and I got a call from visa saying they had cancelled my highwood order and my card due to suspicious activity and that some place I had used the card from before had their records compromised. I emailed Chris and told him I would reorder but he said the card went through ok and my new boot cover came in fine. The day it was delivered, a ups agent called and asked me what was in the shipment. I explained a boot cover and gave her the details of what it was. She asked what the material was and I told her vinyl. She then asked if it was manufactured in England and told her I had no clue but it was for an Italian car. I recieved another visa card and haven't heard from customs on the Italy order or again from ups. So I don't have slow or non-existent shipments, but strangness from incoming shipments from overseas

Not exactly on subject but I thought DHL stopped operating in the US?
They stopped domestic US delivery (and pickup) service a few months ago, but they still operate to and from the US. The problems with shipments to the US may very well be an extension of the endless delivery problems from EU countries to Norway (we're not a member of that particular gentleman's club) on small items. They either take forever or arrives almost as soon as you click "Buy" in a webshop, and usually the culprit is the shipping companies bureaucratic or very poor cooperation with customs, confusing and complicated customs regulation, and of course the "War on <insert bad stuff here>" du jour.

It's simply a PITA for a European to travel to the US these days, and I cannot imagine it's easier for a parcel.

If DHL were still in business, they would have made a delivery right to the airport about 20 min. from my house and delivery would have been made. I think the log jam is somewhere between Europe and the final destination. I can't imagine having to clear so many pieces of mail through customs with out a log jam of some kind. If in doubt, scan it with xrays like they do with luggage at the airport, or sick the sniffin dogs on the packages. What ever the case, I still don't have my first mirror. :(

And I still don't have either of my packages. I know DHL went out of business, but I ordered a part from the same supplier a year ago (DHL has been gone longer than that, I think) and it arrived in a reasonable time. Plus, one of my packages was sent by the supplier, one by a private person. It's too much of a coincidence that two packages sent from Germany within a few days of each other are both MIA. I can only imagine they're stuck in a customs warehouse somewhere. Or maybe headlight buckets and taillight gaskets are on some national security watch list . . .

Hey, guess what? One of the packages (the one from the eBay seller) arrived today, two months after being sent! And a couple of days ago I got a letter from the US Postal Service saying an inquiry was made about the package from the parts seller and asked whether it had arrived or not. So things are slow, but looking up.

buying from Germany? I live in southern Europe and nothing comes from there before 20-30days...Considering US transactions perhapps it will take 40-60 days. Something strange happened there since DHL was bought from the German Post office and all the big parts I've bought from Germany and sent via DHL took a life to come. Sometimes when items sent via other companies, like UPS, came even after 2 days! Maybe this might be the secret...
