Hi All,

Have a blown front right low beam on my 78 116 GTV. How do I remove that headlight? I've removed the screws I can see as well as a retaining clip on the outside of the chrome ring, but can't see what else is holding the ring in. Seem to be hung up under the body work at the top but there is no room to work under there.

Help please!

Russ

There's a post there for the adjuster. You kinda got to twist it out. Sometimes you must tweak the adjuster to get clearance. Remember the turns to put the light in the correct position. May be crusty and rusty shoot it with PB-Blaster.

There are also 2 buckles that clip the headlight bucket to the chrome outer ring. If you can get at those, the sealed beam should come away without a fight. Let me know if you need a pic to show that better. Note: those 3 adjusting screws per lamp are skinny and very fragile. The one that goes into the metal cone likes to freeze up and snap off. The other 2 go into plastic, so not as much of an issue. If you snap one, you'll have to drill and tap... and then go looking for a hard to find replacement screw. Each of the 3 screws is a different design. So try to record where each goes, and the arrangement on the tiny washers, as you go.

Good luck, Peter

Also try to get the owner's manual and esp repair manual for this car if you don't have it. I used to have an Alfetta repair manual, but don't remember if I still have it. May have given it away when we sold our last Alfetta, but I'll look anyway.

The store "Books4cars" in Seattle has repair manuals for the Alfettas if you are interested. Might be my old ones, lol, since I think I remember that I traded in a bunch of old Alfa and Mini manuals and books way back when.
