I had my guibo-less driveshaft made at a local shop which services/manufactures driveshafts. But what I'm really considering now (well sometime in far future) is a one piece carbon driveshaft.

Do a BB search, all of this has been covered!

Application is only for race use where the engine is hard mounted and front trans mounts are through bolted.

Giubos at both ends, properly phased. I and built them with V6 giubos/splined reciever in front and later Alfetta giubo in back as they center positively on the Ta`s input flange. Note!! You cannot use U-Joints on a driveshaft with flywheels on each end. It will self destruct from the power pulses flexing the tube. Needs the rubber to absorb this energy.

I built mine for the GT2 GTV6 (that had massive engine set-back from steel.
Others with longer driveshafts had them built to my design out of CF.

 

Call these guys R. , maybe they can help with a shorter(than 75) one!

Richard Jemison....according to the website I have just viewed which specialises in the transaxle race cars (artracing.co.uk) all the race teams in period in the uk in the 70's for alfettas had UJ'd propshafts without any rubber couplings and they are available as reproductions now on a this website along with reinforced clutch housing, ali lower wishbones, ali torsion bars and rosejointed front suspension to name a few things listed...

 

actually a former prominent alfa romeo uk racer in period said how he lamented the fact that alfa romeo did not use a torque tube between engine and gearbox like porsche and ferrari did to give a tight driveline because he inferred that the type 116 alfa romeo for him was severely flawed in this respect in racing especially.
For street driving with unmodded engines I think if properly maintained the standard setup with later rubber couplings is fine and reliable

 

That's a cool site but what is it with Brits not posting prices? It's same with the Lancia suppliers. Please educate me, I mean I'd like to know if something is worth pursuing or if everybody's time is being wasted asking about prices.

 

nm milano...i also wondered about pricing but I guess enquiry will surely give one the prices ...I am tempted to build my own 116 gt like the awesome autovama italian dealer alfetta gtvs that gave the bmw 3litres and capri 3litres a good run in period in italy seeing as the autodelta parts are now being reproduced

 

Artracing and Turbomotors.it offer propeller shafts made of metal so they are hardly any lighter than original. The question here was that it should be lighter also, so CF propeller shaft comes to mind. In additon to 75IMSA guys there is a company specialises in CF racing parts, JPC composites! Both of these in neighbouring countries. So another Place to ask! I am sure the Dutch tuners also could help!

Did not Mats A tried out carbon propshaft without any success on his car? I think someone mentioned that last week at ID. The 75IMSA guys have been in my mind. But have anyone in here tried out carbon propshafts?

I guess the car would have approx 270-300 bhp and pull about 7500-8000 rpm. Earlier I've heard that rpm can be more of a trouble with the propshaft than bhp. The blue Polizia GTV was running 352bhp and close to 500nm on original donuts, but not that high rpm.

 

i already asked the question about a carbon prop at a uk company that does only prop alignment and replacements when i was thinking of aligning mine and the cost of a carbon prop would be prohibitively expensive from what I recall in the phone chat i had....
I believe the production nissan gtr road car runs a carbon prop from engine to rear transaxle and that setup seemed cool...but when asking around as I said I was told it is sepcialised and very expensive ...money no object is another matter I guess

 

Yes I just checked that he ruined his CF propshaft when his clutch axle broke off and exhaust nuts carved the CF propshaft to bits! You could send a PM to him to ask where het got that CF propshaft from!

Otherwise I am quite sure JPC composites had a CF shaft used on their 4 cyl Alfetta dragster Project.

If not going for CF, I am quite sure the Artracing propshaft is a nice product too ready to install and its race tested. When I asked it cost 700£. It also has internal damping, in spite of CV joints, so not so harsh with the gearbox! Considering to use this one! Should not be too heavy though!

Think you are jumping to conclusions, not considered using one piece CF of steel propshaft at all! Look above, talking about 2 piece steel shaft with internal damping! Dont know what Alfanatiker is considering.

just found on the web a site for the 75 imsa marketing a one piece carbon prop ...which i suppose other 75 components should fit an alfetta...Transmission - ALFA 75 IMSA
