EDIT: this gathering is now a recurring event...as people regularly find the link to this post and wonder about the details, I thought I'd post them right here:

When: Every first Saturday of the month, starting at 8.30 am.
Where: Mozarts on Lake Austin Mozart's Coffee Roasters, specialty coffee, Austin, Texas.
Everyone is always welcome, don't stay home because your Alfa is not running or you don't own one!;)

AROC-THC does a great job organizing a spring and a fall tour every year, and it is always great to see the turn-out. We have quite a few Alfisti in the Austin/San Antonio area. Some car enthusiast clubs here have an informal monthly meeting.

I would be willing to set up something similar for the Alfa community if there is enough interest, like every first Saturday morning of the month at a Starbucks or something. Please vote and let me know if you would like to attend these. If we have a fixed date and place, and enough people interested, there's no need to set it up everytime, and no one will be forced to RSVP. Please only vote if you are in this area, so I can better gauge the interest level.

Thanks;)

Peter, great idea. I assume this would be under THCC? Would always try to attend when I'm in Austin(Spicewood). Glad to host a meeting. Thanks, Bruce

I don't think this necessarily has to be under THCC.....I would like it to be open to any Alfa enthusiast. Would love to meet you and get to see your Spider! Thanks for the offer to host.

Anxious to see your Duetto also. Sounds like the GTV needs some TLC now. After the Spider, I'd like a GTV next. I e-mailed you some info. Bruce

I probably couldn't make it every month but I could every 2nd or 3rd. I'm north of Temple.

I probably could not make it every month myself....if the group is big enough, there will always be at least some that attend:)

bumping to the top so more Austin area Alifisti can read this. I can't believe there are only three of us interested ;):p

Peter,
As the Lone Ranger in South Texas, and being that it would be a very early morning drive to make an early Saturday meeting, I am counting myself out of the poll, But this does not mean I would not try to make a gathering once in a while. The drive alone out of Corpus into the hills and twisties of Central Texas would make it worth the effort.(Once Sophia is back on the road).

Maybe the meetings could be rotated now and then, among the tribe (great seafood here on the coast).

Anyway, good luck and keep us posted.

Bill

I like your suggestion, Bill. And maybe every now and then the tribe could come to Waco and, uh, see the, hmmm, .... how about Salado, yeah, lets make it Salado!

I have a daughter who lives in Rockport and am down there occasionally. This coming weekend in fact to do some bay fishing and BBQ the catch. Don't know if we'll take Lola as rain is predicted and the top leaks. We'll see. Hope to see you one location or the other. I assume Peter is keeping track of all this (on one han so far) as the Cruise Director here . . . Bruce

Face it, it's a big place with more cows than folk, especially Alfa folk. Could meet at Junction at Coopers BBQ. I know there are a few more hiding out in Austin.

Peter, I like the idea of an informal Alfa meeting. Like the LA and London meetings I would think it would probably begin attracting other lonely enthusiasts, too. One thing that's nice about both the LA and London meetings is that you're never quite sure what's going to show up.

I'd love to come and meet the other Alfa motorheads, although I'll be in my trusty Mazda3 instead of my GTV. Hummmm. Maybe I could put Alfa badges on the Mazda3 since it was influenced by the Alfa156 (?) design. :)

Apparently, the London meet is in the evening while the LA meet (s) is/are in the morning. I don't know which is better, although I struggle to be a proper morning person.

You know, there's a CVAR vintage race this weekend at TWS. Maybe a meet once a year or so at a CVAR race would attract Alfisti from Dallas, Houston, Austin, etc., etc.

I didn't know there was a Coopers in Junction. The Coopers I remember was in Llano. I used to go there for lunch back when I was flying. The airport kept a car there you borrow and drive to Coopers. Llano is a good spot. A nice scenic drive out Hwy 29 from Georgetown and across Buchanan dam.

I haven't been to TWS in ages. That would be OK, too. I'll have to just bring Alfa pictures. It'll be a couple of years before mine is running again.

A Couple of Years!!! Yipes.

Why so long? That hurts.

The original Coopers, a family favorite - IS in Llano. They catered my daughter's ranch-style wedding (not my ranch, mind you). It was actually sold in the mid-80's to "some lawyer" who retained the store's name. Another of the 4 Cooper brothers opened one up in Mason. He was sued by the lawyer on the name. More recently, that brother opened the one in Junction. I chatted with the owner's son (now the cook) when we had some great BBQ recently on the way back form Tucson. It would be a good halfway point for the stragglers out in the south & west Hill Country or beyond. Though the drive out the 290 is not all that great (through Fredricksburg), there are a lot of nice side roads as you mention. We did some recently on the way to/from Enchanted Rock the Sunbay before Christmas. Bruce

I know, I know

Why so long? That hurts.
A 17 yo Jr in HS still at home, I'm finishing a Masters Degree this year, 1972 SOCATA Rallye MS894A all disassembled in a hangar (French airplane, Italian car, can I pick'em or what!) , and to top it off, when I took on the Spider, I decided I was going to completely and totally and fully build it from top to bottom, left to right, nose to tail, and make it into the Alfa that I want. The other 5 I have had I have nickeled and dimed, held together with duct tape and hope. This is going to be the one I have always wanted to own. That's why I am guessing 2 years, and in reality maybe longer. But I will try to make it in 2. I really want to drive it, though! Now! Can you blame me?

BTW, Simon has kindly acted upon my request to add a forum for the Texas Hill Country chapter of AROC. I thought you would like that John;)
It may be a good way to get some folks to join the club and get more activities going

Can he move this thread there?

As a 'new' resident of San Antonio (moved here from Los Angeles 2 years ago) and a new Alfa owner (bought my first Alfa 6 months ago) I'm certainly interested in meeting some of the folks on the board. I've got a brother in Austin and make it up there at least once a month anyway. Certainly keep me in the loop - I'd love to attend. :)

Better talk to Osso about this. I understand he's been at a ground up resto for 15 years no less. That would put your son at . . . 32!;)

I'll buy a runner before I let it take that long. I've seen people build an airplane from scratch in their garage in less than 5 years!

Looking at the poll results we have 8 people interested so far, so I think there is enough interest to get this started soon. Just bumping this thread, as I know there are more Alfisti in Austin.

#27 ·
After reviewing the results of the poll to date, looks like some of our brethren from OUT OF STATE will not be able to attend monthly...

With that said, once my sweet baby is back on the road, I'm sure I will make every effort to attend as regularly as possible, if nothing more than to make up for the loss of those folks from New York and Oregon who will miss out.:p...so add my name to the list Peter. ;)

I am a multiple alfa owner in San Antonio..would be interested in joining a local alfa club and or participating in events..
Also, if anyone in the area is interested, I know a great UTR mechanic that works on Italian, German and other exotic cars in SA. He works on alfas, porsches, BMW, mercedes and has a few ferrari and lotus customers.
Call Steve at 210-725 -8580 if interested. He knows his stuff.
If anyone has some info on who to contact to join alfa group, please let me know. Thanks.

I met with a few Hill Country Alfisti yesterday at a joint tour with the Triumph club. There seems to be a lot more interest, it's just that not everyone is on this board frequently. John, would it be possible for you to send this out through the AROC THC distribution list as well? Or would it perhaps be possible to share that list with me

#31 ·
It really was a great tour. The Triumph club is a really nice bunch of people. We were two Alfa's only....Dean brought his GTV, and so did I. Bill T showed up but did not bring his Duetto as there was rain in the forecast, and did not join the tour.
Thanks for forwarding the invite!!

Monthly alfa meeting/get together

Peter put me onto this discussion.

I'd be interested in a regular, informal get together.

I'd love it if the Austin area could develop something like Crystal Cove/Cars & Coffee in LA. It's open to all, and only involves a couple of hour commitment on a Saturday morning. Pick a location with a good coffee shop, get the word out to the clubs in the area, and see what happens.

Dean,

FYI, Crystal Cove Beach is in Orange County, not LA: apologies in advance for being senstive. A little history: (was) open to all but as the event took on "international porportions", (some of the cars that showed up were unbelievable as well as the car haulers parked along Pacific Coast Highway the night before) the Irvine Company and the City of Newport Beach finally banned the event. Lived in the neighborhood for many years and attended regularly. :( Started off as over flow from the Huntingon Beach Donut Shop brigade and quickly became overwhelming with cars and people.

You have a great idea however and would like to participate. So let me know when and where.

Bill T.

Welcome to the board Dean! And thanks to you and Elizabeth for organizing last Saturday's trip, it was a lot of fun!!
I think we have enough Alfisti to get this started. Now I need to come up with a good location. I have one in mind that is close to where I live in Westlake, and I may just as well pick that one, because it's never going to satisfy everyone anyway;) Suggestions are welcome though, but I'm afraid we may get too may conflicting ones:eek:

Peter --

Thanks for the comments. We had a lot of fun planning it out. See attached picture of the group.

I'd say pick a location that works for you and and let's try it.
