Hey folks, looking into the possibility of purchasing an extended warranty for my 2018 Giulia. Has anyone had experience with the MOPAR extended warranty? If so, were you able to use the warranty at an independent service center. I live far from an Alfa dealer, and I have an Mechanic locally that works on Giulias.

Thanks,

Joe G.

I have an extended warranty that I purchased with my Mazda cx-9. The vehicle can be serviced thru mazda or an independent service center.

I called a person (dealer) about an extended warranty which was thru MOPAR. He said that I could use an Independent service center. He also gave me the number to call for the warranty center, so they could tell me how it works. They weren't able to give me a definitive answer. I don't want to spend the money, then have trouble using the warranty, so thought I would check to see if anyone on the board has any experience with using an extended warranty plan outside of the dealership.

It's true that independent service providers can perform warranty service, but not many are set up to do it. They need to know how to work through the warranty process and get paid for the work - and often times warranty work doesn't pay as well as other types of work they may be doing so it's not worth it.

I have it for my wife’s stelvio. I don’t think an independent shop can do warranty on the extended plan. From what I understand the mopar plan is an extension of the factory warranty. The one on my wife’s car includes all same things the original one does. Towing, road side, etc. I got the longest one available. 8 years, 100,000 miles. We bought the car a year old with 29,000 on it and paid 3200 for it. The 2017, 2018 and some 2019’s are having oil pump failures. Which is what lead to the engine replacement. Got a new oil pump at 33,000. After that the engine was never right. All my complaints about it were covered under a bulletin that said it was normal in that production range of engines.

An extend warranty is worth it. One major thing goes wrong. Its paid for itself. My wife’s 2019 stelvio got a new a new engine assembly at 44,000. Imagine how much that would have cost 6,000 miles later. Now at 75,000 the trans is shuddering when it shifts. Progressively getting worse.
