Hi Everybody,

What brand and model of seats fit the Spider. What are you racers using?
I'm no big guy at 5'8", 150# The car will be used both on the street and track.

The Corbeau Clubman is the smallest I have found, besides the childrens car seats!

Charlie,

If you don't know this already, the Spider seats are not located symmetrically in the car. The driver's seat is centered on the steering wheel position, and the passenger seat is offset to the right. I have two Corbeau Forza seats in our autocross Spider, and the right seatback "wing" rubs on the outside ****pit edge.

Also, be sure the seat allows your helmet to be at or under the roll bar height (this is generally not possible with a roll bar that allows the top to be erected). I moved the driver side seat tracks apart so the seat fits down between these, rather than on top of the tracks. This requires the adjusting track to be mounted on the left next to the door with the adjusting lever heated and bent in the opposite direction.

I've not seen them installed, but Centerline started advertising these OMP seats a few months ago. They are supposed to fit well in our Spiders.

Best regards,

Thanks for the replies!

George, the Corbeau Clubman seat has the same measurements as the Forza model, but without the wings. The passenger side is an inch smaller than the drivers side as you noted. Are you using their slider mounting rails?

The roll bar in the car will be disgarded in favor of a custom built bar. In comparison to the bar that is in it now I can increase the height 1" and not interfere with the top movement. A 2" increase in the width looks possible.
I'm hoping to be able to brace the roll bar from about shoulder height to the lower front section of the door sill, and from that point up under the dash to the other side. The goal is to improve safety and stiffen up the chassis at the same time.

Zunige, those OMP seats from Centerline sure looks great! I had forgotten about them. Thanks for bring them back to my attention.

Msiert, I need to re-read your custom roll bar installation. Do you feel a difference in chassis rigidity when you have the petty bar mounted?

Hi Charlie,

I have taken out the petty bar out between run sessions and couldn't tell the difference but I'm not driving it at 10/10's either, I'm still a novice driver.

But the last time I installed the petty bar I had to slowly lower the rear of the car (it was up on jack stands at the time of the install) until the holes lined up to slip the 2 pins in it. As I get faster I bet I would notice the difference.

Charlie,

You can go with a bar as wide as 43 3/4 inches, measured from the outside of the verticals that would make up the main hoop. This will still leave you enough room to mount base plates with 4 bolts. One thing to note however, is that the rear shelf has a double floor. The top of the shelf is simply not strong enough to properly support a roll bar in case of a rollover. Thus, you need to cut out the top shelf portion that will support the base plate, reinforce the support using the bottom shelf floor, and then re-weld the reinforced top shelf piece back where it was.

One idea you may want to consider is installing a chassis stiffener, and then doing a custom roll bar, where the main hoop would go through the rear shelf floors and attach to the chassis stiffener directly. Thus, the main hoop would be attached to the stiffener, and the braces that also support the main hoop would be attached to the wall between the passenger cabin and trunk (in the traditional way). This would definitely improve rigidity, but if you are going to participate in formal competitions, it may not be allowed...

Best regards,
