What is this under my hood??

I am a new alfa owner and am learning a great deal about cars as I work on this car. I have looked through the Alfa Owners Bible cover to cover and I cant find Out what this part is under my hood. It is obviously not an original part but I want to know what it is and what it does please help! (oh yeah I have removed some Items for easier viewing and to perform needed repairs) Thanks in advance for any help.

The unit with the pulley next to the water resivoir is your smog pump and all the other items you have marked off are misc. smog equipment.

Technically, it's called an Air Injection Reactor or AIR pump for short. It's purpose is to supply oxygen into the exhaust manifold to more completely burn the spent exhaust gases. It was fitted to many vehicles of the time by the manufacturers, including Alfa, in order to reduce emissions.
