I have a '79 spider and needed to replace the washer fluid reservoir. Got the motor back on and plugged in. But where does the south end of the tube go? I can not for the life of me see where the end of the 12" long tube goes from the reservoir to ?????? It's got to connect to the car somewhere but where? Can anyone help? Thanks so much!

I don't know about the 79 Spider but if you look in the picture here:

Item 41 is the washer fluid tank on the S3 Spider. To the left of the tank, against the firewall you can see a white/tan/beige line which connects the pump mounted on the bottom of the tank to the washer jets in the cowl via that line.

I would expect that you should find something similar on the 79 or perhaps the broken end of a piece of tubing. You may have to remove the cowl and replumb the washer jets to your pump

It is not very hard to remove the cowl vent piece. Remove the windshield wiper arms. I think you have to remove a nut under each wiper post next. Lift up the rubber flap where the hood closes and find a few small screws. Remove them and the cowl vent piece slides out forwards. There should be some clips along the base of the windshield frame - you might need an extra pair of hands to help get the cowl vent back into place into those clips.

have done this a few times myself too.......very simple job....and if you do it yourself there are a few things to do whilst you are in there....cleaning out any leaves, making sure the cowl hoses are free of crud, lubricating the wiper linkages, checking rust below the screen, cleaning up the screen clips, etc....things a shop will not do (unless you instruct them and pay them to do so)

Wowwww! You guys make it sound so easy!!!I is full of leaves for sure. And there is an open end of a hose I see. The hole I spoke of MAY be a drain hole?

I'd love to post pics in the thread but I can't seem to figure that out either. Can't upload pics from computer? Do they have to be in an online storage somewhere? Hmmm...more things to work on ;)

its very easy to post photos:
click on "Go advanced" button just below the "quick reply" window, that opens a window where you now can see a "paperclip" icon (next to smiley), click on this and it opens a further window where you can choose pics from your computor... when pics have uploaded (you see the source appear when they have) then close window and they should be in your reply (to double check, you can click on "preview post" before submitting reply)

For some reason the 'paperclip' icon isn't working right now. After clicking 'New Reply' scroll down below the text box to find the 'manage attachments' button.

Here's some pictures about how to attach pictures...

So taking out the reservoir has opened a can of worms. That end of hose was attached somewhere south of the reservoir. I know it was. I had to pull hard to get it out. That aside, now I see a raw end of hose in the cowl. See pic. There is also a cable coming out, a long cable with nothing on the end? Huh???? Car guy didn't know what it was.....sigh.....My washer spray works by pulling wiper arm. But now motor isn't working (and I swear it was before I took it all apart) Is there a way to test the motor NOT plugged into car? Worms, worms, worms!!
