On my car, and presumably many others, the upper right will also light when the parking brake is engaged.

AFAIK, the upper right light, well, lights, with the handbrake only on the 71s (in the US). IMO it's a really dumb idea that's made my heart skip a beat or two more than once. Modal interfaces are not your friend!

The previous owner of mine wired the headlight indicators backward. You'd think after 13 years I'd've fixed it by now, but meh...

As added info, on cars with carbs, the upper LH light illuminates red when the choke knob is pulled out. Upper RH is red for low oil pressure. Lower LH is green to indicate lights are on; and lower RH is blue for high beams.

Bringing this back to life, I hope - some of these lamps are wrong/dead on my '72 Spider, and if I'm going to get into it, I'd like to replace them with LEDs as described in the "LED instrument cluster lights" thread (I can't post URLs yet...)

But ... how do I get to these bulbs in the first place? From the front? From the back? Through the vents?

Thanks.

IMHO there's no easy way. You would need to remove the center console. If there's a radio installed and you'll need to remove that and then you'll have access to the back of the jewel lights. They just pull out of their plastic holders but keep an eye on what wires go where. You should also get a color wiring diagram from papajam on the BB before you mess around with the electrical. It's not all that complicated but you can still get lost.

If you're a bit of a nut you could pull the dash - (2) M6 nuts at the ends and two wing nuts near the middle and a bunch of wires, lots and switches. You will now obviously have clear access to all the lights, etc. Then you could make a new wire harness for the lights and gauges in the center section with a Molex or similar multi connector. This way you can install all the electrics that go in the dash before you install the dash. Makes life so much easier...
