Ok I bought a 1983 Alfa Spider. and it runs but not good. When I align the mark on the crankshaft to the pointer F or P the rotor in the Distributor is way off its like in between the two wires and I know there only 2 place the distributor can go. Is there a way to realign the oil pump shaft so it right without taking the oil pump off.?

No.
Remove the distributor from the car (one 10mm nut) and loosen the flat clamp that goes around the dist shaft so that the dist can be rotated inside the clamp. Put the dist back on the car and rotate it until it point to a wire with the crankshaft set to P mark. Then remove the dis again and tighten up the clamp, reinstall the dist. It will take a few tries but you will get there. Dont forget to put the O-ring back on ......

Goats is correct. But loosen the nut just enough so you can turn the dist. housing. Qs you have to set base timing on the Jetronic cars. Time to the F mark while running.

Thank you for all your help that was very useful. The mark is on now seem to run a little better still have to time it. Never played with one of these cars so it all new to me. Worked a a lot on Triumphs. Need to replace all the vacuum lines on the Alfa I got to figure out how to change those two lines going into the inter fender from the air duck.

I know there only 2 place the distributor can go.
If I am interpreting that remark correctly, I should warn you that once the oil pump has been installed, there is only one way the distributor can go.

I know it looks like that slot is centered in the oil pump shaft - sort of like the slot in a slotted head screw - but in fact the slot is slightly offset. The drive cog on the distributor shaft is similarly offset, so you can't rotate the distributor 180 degrees and still have it drop in.
