Hi,

I have the american version S4 automatic and one of the headlamp bulbs needs changing. Parts software shows that the american version has different bulbs than the european one. Maybe someone knows which type of bulbs are used in the american version and where it is possible to buy them?

Thanks in advance!

It is possible the 'American' versions came with sealed beam headlights.

Have you tried removing the headlamp or bulb and taking it to any auto parts store? They'd be able to match it up. Just don't say it is for an Alfa Romeo - they might ask, 'who makes that?'

Yes, in the US Spiders came with 7" high/low sealed beams. The Sylvania part number is H6024. On these headlights the bulb, reflector, and lens are all one part and you replace them all together.

However, European H4 headlamps are a drop-in upgrade. These use an H4 bulb and you only replace the bulb when it burns out: you reuse the reflector and lens. Cibie and Hella both make 7-inch H4 headlights that fit right in.

No idea. If you can't find it locally, probably it would just be cheaper to buy some H4 replacements: those should be available anywhere. At the very least you'll get a better light pattern.

I would do what others have suggested and change the headlights to the H4 type which is what I have done.
You can then fit better, brighter bulbs and carry spare bulbs in the car in case of failure.

The UK suppliers seem to have versions for LHD or RHD, e.g.

I've also gone from US-spec sealed beams to H4s. I can actually see now, and properly aimed, they're no more annoying (and probably less so) to oncoming traffic. They're not exactly legal in the US, but that hasn't stopped many of us. Given the choice between legality and safety, I opted to go with the Cibie H4s from Daniel Stern.
