The 4 Alpine speakers are SPS 13C2's. Had to put spacers in the back speakers because they are a touch higher but replaced the original covers.(sprayed them black again) The doors were more work, my son had to file a bit of the metal down to get the magnet to slide in. The original speakers in the door have AR 93 stamped on them, the passenger side was completely blown.

My radio is original in the 94 and not the best, I replaced the radio in the 93 but not the speakers. The sound is wonderful now but only when a cd is being played. The 12 cd changer in the trunk works when it wants to, we've cleaned it many times, may have to take it to a prof to get cleaned.

Ah, yes, blown foam ring syndrome.

Useless tidbit #784: if you put just a very thin film of vasoline petrolium jelly on that foam bit of any speaker, it will stay supple for years longer than normal and not deteriorate as the jelly penetrates and ever so slightly softens it while sorta sealing it against anything else getting into it's pores.

Put it on every 3-4 years and they'll likely last indefinitely. (I've got a set I've been doing it too for over 16 years that are still going strong)

For what it's worth

As a side note, I imagine a silicone spray or gel would protect equally as well, but not have any chemical penetration of the material.

Hi guys, Maybe a "newb" question but I see only two speakers on my 1990 s4 in the footwell... are there other speakers? I see you guys talk about 4 speakers... I would like have some more sound in the old girl but whilst I am happy to replace the footwell speakers with the Alpine or Clarion speakers I am unsure of what else I can do short of going full custom in the back "seat" area.

this all being said, any driving over 3500 rpm renders any sound system useless on my car with a racey exhaust system..

edit..

my speakers are in the footwell not in teh doors

There are 2 more speakers in the rear parcel shelf.

Good luck,

Vin
