Lexan/Perspex windows

Could anyone offer an opinion please...

Are all the door 'wind-up' windows in a GTA Stradale glass, or were there lexan/perspex wind-up windows fitted too?

My main question is: Will plastic ones be affected by wind at speed and will they start to lift/flap from the seals? (when the car is driven hard with the windows up)

I currently have standard glass, but I've just fitted new and much thinner alloy door frames, and they look like they might distort over time with the weight and forces of winding.

I'd prefer to fit wind-up windows, as with the heat here, I think sliding plastic wouldn't let enough air into the cabin.

Thanks,
Fletch.

My understanding is that all GTA 1300 Stradale's from the factory came with glass windows.

There was a option by AD and in the POC for Corsa race cars for plastic side wndows. There were two option types (sliding and wind-up). Sliding were used early on until they were banned by the FIA and other sanctioning bodies due to safety concerns. Sliding plastic were then allowed and used ofton. When the GTA's and GTAm were looked at closely and weighed under scrutiny, these sanctioning bodies started to dis-allow the use of side plastic and (rear plastic windows) due to the required weight requirements imposed. Both of the plastic window options were homologated for GTA 1600(late) GTA 1300, GTAm and Alfetta. I need to refrence the FIA homologation papers to see if they were homologated for racing GTV's as well, probably for Group 2 only.

1600 stradales came w/ plexiglas on side windows, 1300 stradales had glass all around. Window winders are aluminum instead of steel as on regular GT's. A lightweight glass windscreen was available but don't know if all cars had it fitted. Rear window was always glass on stradales. The descending plexiglas windows used to have a chrome wear strip on the rear edge towards the B-pillar.

For racing, some (very few) Autodelta cars had the window winding mechanism removed and replaced w/ a leather strap. Later on sliding plexiglas and plexiglas rear window were homologated and commonly used for racing.

Spot on!!! So you know, we are currently doing a production of the thin stainless trim to fit the back of 1600 GTA main door plexiglas, as most cars are missing it. Yes it certianly imporves ridigity to stop the windo0ws bowing at speed.

Great answers, thank you gentlemen. The chrome wear strip would add rigidity too.

Could anyone post a photo of a plastic window that still has the strip? None are really visible in the GTA photos on the BB....

Thanks again,
Fletch.

This is a perfect topic at the perfect time for me doing my GTAm clone. It is too hot in Texas also for windows that are fixed in the up position and I do not want the weight of the regulator and glass. Any pics of the pull up strap type would be great!

Thanks
