Only four of the terminals get used.

L - blue/black wire
R - blue
49a - white/black
31 - black

Does the 'new' switch have these four terminals?

The number labels are molded into the plastic next to each terminal.
And yes, the terminal numbers are on the wiring diagram.

 

Jim's wiring diagrams are the best and worthy of framing! Very trustworthy and always a great resource. Don't know how he keeps all this 'spaghetti' straight in his mind.

Okay so l and 31 seem to be one terminal on my new switch. Does that make it unusable?

 

No I'm wrong. 31 is just a blank. No terminal there

 

Okay another question to add. Car ran great last night, now won't start. I noticed I don't hear the fuel pump (it was loud before). What could have changed? Thanks

 

I would wager then that terminal 31 is the center terminal, which is missing on the new switch. This terminal is the ground for the lightbulb in the switch. Assuming that the rest of the switch works, the external hazard lights will flash but the light in switch will not.

First thing to check for the fuelpump is the fuse. It is located in the small, 2-fuse fusebox right next to the main fusebox.
