I've seen many threads on steering wheel removal, but none have shown images of the wheel being removed with a 3 arm gear puller.
I rented this puller from AutoZone. It's a 5 ton puller. I repositioned the arms to have shorter length and it fit perfectly around the diameter of the steering wheel.
I tightened the center shaft of the puller to something around 20 ft-lb. It didn't pop or come off so I sprayed it with PB blaster and am going to leave it for a while.
I have the 27mm nut on the hollow shaft to protect the threads from deforming. You can see in the image that it is backed out all the way to the top of the shaft.
I read about hitting the center of the puller with a hammer? I'm hesitant to hit it because I don't want to damage anything in the gearbox. Suggestions?
