Hello everyone.

My name's Michael Cecere, I live in South Australia, and i'm half way through a 1973 2000GTV Coupe restoration and was looking for some wheels advice, or, to be more specific - WHAT SIZE ARE THESE PANASPORTS (SUPERLITES)??? :)

If you follow the link below you should see a very clean orange GTV. This is the look i'm trying to copy because it's fantastic!!! Does anyone know the car? I think it lives in Brea, California - Are these 16 x 7 Inch wheels???

CHEERS, Michael

I'm new to all this so here's the address of the pictures because i can't seem to get them to stay here on their own

Hi Michael,

They're probably 15x7. 16" wheels are very unusual (not to mention impractical) on GTVs. Personally, I like the way 14's look if the car is lowered by 1". Back in the day, racers often went down to 13" wheels. But its all personal preference. Good luck with your project. Post some photos when you're done!

P.S. - Paul Spruell (sp) Racing seems to have the best prices in the US for new Panasports. I've seen used sets sell for near the price of new many times. Have you considered GTA replicas? If so, Alfaholics is your store for 14" and 15" versions.

Hello Mark, thanks for the reply!

And thank you for the GTA wheel suggestion. I have already spent many many hours staring at a picture of a Burgundy 2000 GTV with GTA rims on it (from the Alfaholics website) up against the picture of the Orange GTV with Panasports that you saw. :) I think the GTA rims are fantastic but I’ll save them for a special Alfa I plan to build down the track and put Panasports on my current GTV. Anyway, it’s this very comparison that’s led me to suspect these wheels are 16 inch and not 15’ as they appeared to be larger that the GTA rims which I’m sure were 15x7. Possibly an optical illusion because, yes, I have been warned about putting 16 inch wheels on GTVs. But why is this???

I don’t quite understand - at present my Alfa has 14x6 Panasport style rims with 205/60 tyres. Today I was looking at 16x7 Panasport style rims with 205/50 tyres. In my mind, they’re exactly the same width, and due to the reduction in tyre profile, they are VERY close to one another in overall diameter (around half an inch (12mm) different and a lot of that owing to one set of tyres being new and the other worn. So why am I told time and time again that 16s are impractical when in my mind the wheel is the same overall size irrespective of rim diameter????

Thanks again for helping a confused Australian,

Ps, the link below should take you to a single picture of my naked Alfa at this stage of the project. I would have put more up but both my computer illiterate mind and my slow computer became overwhelmed!

I've had an electric sliding steel webasto sunroof fitted, and the Alfa's had a complete bare metal respray with all bumper mounting holes filled. I'm very happy with the way it's turning out... :)
