I was driving home last night and decided to flip on the A.C to check if its working properly I noticed that when I turn it on that the battery light slightley lit up is this normal ? how can I check if it is drawing to much power ?

Presuming you mean in a car that's between 1982 and 1994:
Check the voltage at the battery terminals w/engine warm and idling, then again w/warm idling and AC on.
If battery volts drops below 12V, the AC is drawing too much or the alternator isn't putting out enough. (the light is supposed to start glowing dimly at around 11.5 ~ 11.75 V)
If it's above 12V, you might have the wrong wattage bulb in the battery light.
