I just ran out of time to send my leather strips O/S to have the pattern placed on them. So plan B: Do it myself with hand tools. After version 1 of the hand tool which we tried to combine all functions did not work, I rethought process and had two separate tools made. I have just managed to reproduce the special pattern on one leather strip for my front seats, which I am pleased with. One tool I modified to make the large diamond shape. The other tool for the fine holes I had made by a tool maker (who said you must really love your car!). Notice the small holes are all equally spaced and in line most of the time. Hopefully the tools will last as I only another 27 strips (60cm long) to go for the front seats and another 32 strips (70 cm long) for the back seats as my trimmer is waiting for them by the end of this week. My trimmer has nearly finished making the door cards and back seat side cards. I have asked for leather piping to go around the door cards and the door handles as per the original samples I have (also see photos posted by Veloce Rosso). We are waiting on the leather splitting machine to arrive actually tomorrow from the UK so the leather piping can be made with thinner leather and the door handles can be completely covered with thinner leather! more on this later. (two different cameras, first photo is the actual colour of the leather)

I just delivered the patterned 28 leather strips for the front seats to my trimmer.
I used a hand tool for the large holes 5,040 times (seemed like more!) and the other tool for the small holes 3,360 times.
Both tools are still in good order surprisingly. The tool for the large holes cost me about $4 and the other tool for small holes cost me $45. It has taken 6 solid days so far. Local Alfa club members and my trimmer were impressed with results. Now to do back seat strips!

Great work Steve, well done.

It'll look shmick when the upholsterer gets done with it.

Cheers.

I just finished the other 32 strips for the back seats. My tool for the large diamond holes failed at about 5,800 applications on the back seat strips. I made up a another tool in 10 minutes which allowed me to finish last night. So for the back seats that was 6,720 individual large diamond holes and 4,480 application of the small hole tool. A total of 11,760 applications of the large diamond tool and 7,840 for the small hole tool.
Some photos of the strips ready for delivery to trimmer today. Stopped off at the SevenHill winery in Clare Valley https://www.sevenhill.com.au/ for some wine tasting and to pick up some wine on the way back from the Trimmer in Clare.

105 Leather 'Bertone DeLuxe' option The leather 'Bertone DeLuxe' options for seat option for 105s is a rare option. I have started this link to share what I know having owned two 105 cars with the option.
hello I am a Japanese Giulia GT Veloce owner. This time I replaced the seats with a duplicate. The original leather 'Bertone DeLuxe' options seats were dark brown. I want to remake the seat to deluxe someday.

I believe that leather seats were an option for Giulietta cars but have never seen them.
excuse me
Please let me change to this account.

It seems that there was a sheet of the type in the attached photo in the veloce series.

Hello
The dark brown front seat in the first photo does look like the Bertone DeLuxe seats for a GTV1600 with 7 pleats for front seats and they had 8 pleats for rear seats (The above first photo shows incorrect trimmed rear seats).
The second photo does also show the Bertone DeLuxe seats for a GTV1600 with 7 pleats for the front seats.

I've recreated Bertone DeLuxe seats for my GT Veloce 1600 in red. I'll be recreating them in dark brown in the next 6 months for my other GT Veloce 1600. The cars with the Bertone DeLuxe option also have special leather door cards and rear panel trims.

hello steve

The rear seat in the first photo is a black 1600GTV regular seat.

This time I gave up remaking the deluxe seat.

I made it by repainting the regular sheet.

I attach a photo.

The hardest part was the punching leather part in the center.

I gave up on the remake because I couldn't find it
Later I found a store in Germany or somewhere that sells it.

I hope it will be useful for your future work.

Hello,
Yes it takes some time to make them by hand. It's always enjoyable when you make something. If you are considering making them later that's great. I made my red seats with out any GTVeloce 1600 leather seats for reference, just photos. I did have the door cards. If you are considering passing on the old brown leather cover/s I would be interested in them.
Regards Steve

hello steve

It's still a long way off, but I'd like to return to the original deluxe style eventually.

There are only two sets of leather for the front driver and passenger seats.

I have no plans to let it go for now.

I don't know if it will be helpful, but please see the photo.

Good luck
I support your challenge!

Thank you for posting the photos.
I've been discussing dark brown leather seat project and looking at samples of leather from a leather factory here in Australia in the last few weeks. I showed them a dark brown sample from my 1750 GTV S1 that also has the Bertone DeLuxe option.
Regards Steve

hello steve

Do you have any plans to release the deluxe type leather cover that you are currently working on?

When selling, do you have a planned price?

I'm considering doing a few more sets of seats as I have a few GT Veloce 1600 cars, as well as using the Bertone DeLuxe pattern for the sports car's seats which I'm just caught up with at the moment, restoring one car and building a new one. I'll start around December on the seat covers, they take about 200+ hours per car.
Regards Steve

I know you are busy, but please do your best.

Please upload a photo when the leather seat cover is completed.
looking forward to it.

I don't know if it will be helpful, but I will attach a picture.
The scale in the photo is a menthimeter.
It is 4 cm wide.
seat side 10cm.

Thank you for the details and extra photos.
I've examined your photos closely and I've realized the tool or machine was faulty at the time your leather seats were made. Notice the seven small holes don't line up for the right hand diagonal set (45 degrees to horizontal). counting from the bottom the 5th small hole is out of alignment with respect to the other 6 small holes. This small fifth hole does start to move closer to the nearest large hole and eventually merges with it. (movement of 5th holes is not related to ageing or distortion of leather over 50 years)
As a guess I think at this time a technician stopped the machine or the 5th small punch just snapped off so on the left hand diagonal run the 5th hole is missing. What this tells me is the punch tool for the small holes had 7 punches, just like mine, very interesting.
Regards Steve

Hello all.

I have a 1971 GTV 1750 with a hide interior. The seats were torn along the perforations when I bought it in 1984, suggesting that the materials did not have a long life span. The car went into storage for fifteen years and I carried out a restoration in 2007. The seats were a real problem although the door cards were okay. I also stumbled on the Espada connection through Matt at Re-Originals in Texas. I sent him a vector graphic of the pattern which I measured and drew using Adobe Illustrator. I probably have that on my old computer is it useful to anyone. In the end, I made a jig out of drilled sheet steel, sharpened two hardened punches into square ends and punched the leather myself over a block of hardwood. I then had these repair pieces sewn onto the original covers. You have to be very patient but it can be done. I will take some pictures and post them once I have sent this post off.

Good luck with your restorations,

Alobe illustrator files or any digital files would be great.
