Ciao!
I am a BMW driver and VERY active with their local autocross program. It would be nice if there were enough Alfas around to hold local events. :(

Although I see a lot of animosity between Alfa and BMW owners, I think they have a lot in common. Both types of cars handle the curves wonderfully. There are a lot of BMW enthusiasts who are as passionate about their BMW's as Alfa owners are. Their reputation is ruined by some arrogant owners. Just like Alfa's reputation has been hurt by some unreliable models in the past. I've taken a lot of heat about the reliability of my car (much of it deserved) and heard a lot of people say they would never buy an Alfa when they returned to the US. I provided them with some information about the newer Alfas and reliability info about older Alfas (other than mine)... several of them have asked me about their return. :) I had a friend (BMW guy) ask me about it last night and say he wanted to take one for a test drive when they return.

Many of the BMW owners aren't happy with the looks of the new BMWs. They still like their handling but say they doubt they would buy a new one. They just don't want a car whos looks have to "grow on them". If Alfa is planning to compete with the 3 series and comes back with something that looks good, is reliable and handles... They could actually pull a lot of those owners. Unfortunately, a lot of them are starting to look at replacing their cars right soon. If Alfa waits too long, many of them will have already found a new brand. It would be YEARS before they look to replace their cars again. :(
