HA!! That's hilarious. The big mesh box wasn't enough, they had to raise it up on little stand-off rods. And I'll wager it's unbelievably front-heavy. And a tasteful grille to top it off.

OP - dig around to find the critical dimensions of the modern 2L, see if it's feasible. I agree with the desire to keep it all under the hood. Those lines were there for a reason.

My sense is that it would be easier to re-engineer the oil pan and oil pickup than to replace the crossmember.

Agreed. Custom welded-up pan and modified oil pickup.

How wide is the engine? How tall? Where is the intake and air metering assembly? Where is the turbo located?
