As of tonight, my freshly rebuilt transmission is resting on its mounting studs and the input shaft is inserted properly, with the clutch fork and throwout bearing all lined up and installed. AWESOME!!!!!!! This has been such a huge job, especially for a not-so-experienced mechanic like myself.
I stupidly forget to buy a clutch alignment tool when I ordered my parts from IAP, but I got the plate and pilot shaft lined up nicely by applying light forward pressure to the transmission and nudging the flywheel a few degrees at a time until I felt everything give.
Now all I have to do is bolt everything up and put the rest of the car back together!
