I'm looking for a Bosch starter marked 0001211987 rebuilt or checked out.
Need shoulder center bolt and shim. All three bolts would be even better .

I have an Excellent Starter, later no. # (0001311 100), off of a 77 Spider, same as your 3 bolt #. 9 tooth gear, W/ center-bolt and I should be able to find a shim. $120. + $20. shipping to lower 48 only. Let me know if you need a pic.

I’d take that starter if OP doesn’t want it.

DPeterson3, Don, It's been 24 hrs. with no response from samakijoe, so the Starter is yours. I've sent a PM. Bob

Joe,
Are you aware that Bosch 1005 821 071 from a late S3 is a direct replacement. It is a PM, gear reduction type that is smaller and more powerful and at 7.5# a lot lighter than the original.

Hmmm. No, I'm not all that conversant on S3 stuff. All of the listings I've seen show the SR484X and/or SR84X, Bosch rebuilts, and none of the pics show a gear reduction unit.

Educate me?

The starters on Spiders from about 86 on are permanent magnet, gear reduction. The S3 ones are a swap for S2 from about 73 on and earlier S3. S4's will replace some earlier S2's. There have been plenty of posts with better detail. I have had a 1005 821 071 on my 79 Spider for more than 10 years.

The gear reduction starters I'm used to don't look like the standard straight-tube type I'm used to. I've got the high-horsepower (1HP) starter on my 77 now, and the one I've just bought above should be the same, but they don't look like "gear reduction" starters to me. Possibly permanent magnet, high-output.

Have you got a picture of the "gear reduction" type starter?

not2old4toys: I would like the gear reduction starter if it has not been spoken for.
