i have one and a wooden wheel. its beautiful but to be honest, i can see why it evolved to leather-wrapping. you will end up wanting driving gloves for longer trips and serious curve-slinging. but on the good side it teaches you to not use the shifter as a handrest which can be a hard habit to break and can really wear on the shifter forks over the years.

I got a real wood handle at spider-point.com. Expensive, but substantially nicer than the junky rubber one that is one there now. Looks real sharp with the matching shift knob.

That's about right and with the current exchange rate, its not cheap!! I bought mine with more a more favorable rate, but its an expensive little handle. Really looks nice though.
