Later in the summer I'm planning to replace the soft top on my 1988 Quad. Although the car is in the US, I am thinking of sourcing the new hood from either Alfaholics or Classic Alfa. Alfaholics´ web site claims that their soft tops are made in Italy by the original manufacturer for Pininfarina and the tops are made using Haartz cloth. Classic Alfa says that their tops are made with German Sonnenland mohair, which they claim is superior to Haartz. Prices are GBP390 for the Classic Alfa top and GBP420 for the Alfaholics one. I would be interested to hear feedback and/or recommendations from anyone who has installed either of these tops, or, even better, anyone who seen/installed both and can advise on how they compare. Or perhaps there is another source that I should be considering?

My installer had me order my new top from topsonline.com. They sell Robins, the brand that I purchased, ez-on, and their own brand. I purchased a Cloth a Robins top with Haartz stayfast material and padded rear quarters

I bought the German Sonnenland mohair top from Classic Alfa and installed it myself. Pretty simple since the rear stud holes are all pre-punched perfectly. I could have done it in a day or two, but after I removed the old top I found the frame kind of rusty so I took some extra time to sand it and paint it with black semi-gloss POR15. I also found 5 of the rear channel studs stripped, rusted or broken so I decided to replace them with metric Rivnuts and studs. What with waiting for the paint on the frame to adequately cure, and sourcing the proper metric rivnuts and install tool, those extra projects added about a month to my install, but the top fit nice and tight and there wasn't a single wrinkle in the rear window. Gadwhite's excellent photo thread on this forum was very helpful and gave me the courage to tackle the job. I'd buy the same top from Classic Alfa if I had to do it again.

Electron tops have the best quality and fit. That’s the only brand Centerline sells.
