Hello everyone,

Recently bought a set of 13" Campags for the sprint. They are in quite good condition and as per most peoples view in a previous thread on this, they appear to work fine, I cant get them to foul, rub or bang on anything. I tried in the pouring rain in Sydney the other night, mind you the "Allstar" high profile tyres on them leave a lot to be desired.

I cleaned them but they could benefit from a repaint. Anyone had this done to Mags? Am told soda blasting rather than sand blasting would be a good way to go. Does anyone have a view? And as to the colour of the Campags and Momos of the 80's, it seems like a kind of pearly silver. Is there some paint code for it?

Having them blasted would be the best option, any blaster that specialises in Automotive things should know wats best. Sand blasting would be rather coarse for the soft campag alloy, a lot of blasters use other media other than sand anyways.
As for colour, try a 2 pack paint, hard and durable. Or else you could go for powdercoating as long as the alloy is suitable, I think magnesium alloys dont like being heated as they release gas when hot and ruin the finish. There are so many powder colours available these days you are bound to find a really close match to the original. I just picked up some parts from my blaster and powdercoater guy, they are simply fantastic and the finish is like glass!

Thanks for that.

Had not thought of powder coating.

I am getting that done to the air filter cover soon. It is probably a bit anal to do that but its the most visible part of the engine. I have been recommended a sign writer to stencil on and paint the "Alfa Romeo" in white on top. Hopefully will look cool.

Hmmm..powdercoat the whole car eh? Would be nice. Much to my horror whilst showing a fellow Alfista where sprints rust badly (in that panel in front of the rear wheel where the drain is) I noticed a small bubble in mine...which is now three holes the size of 20 cent pieces:(. Will ahve to finf some dollars to have it cut out then respray the whole panel. I fear the other side may be similar. Shall have to pull out my newly upholstered seats and take out the trim. Wish I'd learn't some panekl beating skills.

What about a layer of that ceramic finish Ferrari use? That would be nice too.:D
