I recently picked up a 1984 spider which had been disassembled presumably for restoration. I got the great, rustless body with the engine on a stand, a spare engine block, (with a bad cylinder head stud), and several large containers of parts. I know I may be missing some things and I may have multiples of others, but this little hardened piece is a mystery. Its' dimensions are: approx. 1/2" x 5/8" x 1/8".

Indeed - that appears to be the locking plate for the timing chain tensioner.
