Photo to come v soon...wire is in trunk, factory, and it goes through the rear driv side fender, into the body somewhere, obviously. What is it?

Dont mean to add "drama" to the "coming soon" bit, its just that the pic will be added soon by my son, joe papa Jr.....
Thanks

Wire wire or coax looking wire? (thinking antenna lead)
Thanks, Tif, and sorry....so far, no picture...my son had to scram to FSU to get ready for fall semester apt stuff. should have pic in 2-3 days. Anyway, if we're trying to guess without the picture, it comes along the driv side rear fender, with the fuel lines, and is not coax, but has 3 wires coming into one clip (T-clip connector). The "top" of the T has a yel/blue wire and blk wire, where the bottom "base" of the T has a red/blk wire. Any hint? My antenna is hooked up , so cant be that.

Thanks,
Joe

3 wires?

I'm still going to say 'antenna', but revise it with a reach to say 'wire harness and connector for power anenna' (as in I basically don't have a clue, but am willing to shoot in the dark :) )

Dunno about the color scheme for it, nor if you already have one installed and running, but the # of wires and location would make sense to me. (1 'up', 1 'down', 1 ground)

The antenna is on the other side, or pass side, as Im sure you know, it'sthe totally opposite side of the car. No way this wire will reach the antenna next to the battery (87 spider). Besides, the antenna is already connected and functional. This 3 wire harness has been hanging there forever....

Man, I wish my son had put the pic on here, Yup, a 3 wire thing.

the only wires I see on the drivers side, inside the trunk are: Wires to the gas tank, but they are not in a T connector. the only T connectors I see are the wires to the rear lights. Do yours work? peraphs the rear fog lights?

Hey, that might something. I didn't think about the fog lights.

As to the antenna being on the opposite side: Look through the pix of folks cars on the board and you'll see them on either side (I guess that was a 'manufacturing thing' back then?) and if you are ever around these parts, you can look at mine where it was installed on the left fender rather than anywhere on the back.

Anyway and either or, have you put a test light or multimeter to the contacts to see if it gets juice full time, just with the key, or mabe even dependant upon whether the engine is running or not?

It might narrow down the possibilites as to what their purpose is.

Hmmm.

Looking at a schematic for a late S3, rear fog lights (both sides) are light blue w/white trace and black that couple into a 6 contact connector on each side with the rest of the tail light stuff.

Further digging shows a 'manual antenna control switch' (B31 in the chart if it matters) but I can't actually find it on any of the schematics to see what wires are associated with it. (can't even find an antenna of any type actually, let alone a power one with a switch)

The rear window defogger switch showed promise as it had a light blue w/yellow trace, but it's only a 2 wire setup and by the time it get back to the connector for the window it's not even the same color pattern.

Color me cluless
