Hi there,

I saw an engine fitted into a 105 gt coupe.

I can't figure out what is the engine. A 2 liter ? US market ?

The number stamped on the block (rear, driver side, near the gearbox) starts with AR 00550 ....

Tha engine is fitted with dellorto carburetor.

Thank you for your help.

are you perhaps misreading it?
AR00551 would be a USA 1750

AR00559 would be a 1300 GTA junior engine, but you will have noticed that one as it will have twin plugs:)

not sure what AR00550 is

According to Fusi, there's no 550 engine code (at least until 1972).
If it's 551 it's a US version 1750 originally fitted with Spica injection.

Any markings on the front of the cylinder head? Square or triangle or triangle with a dot or plain 2.0.

I made a picture, but not very clear (sorry).

I compared with the 3 of the number which is after and the beginning looks like 2 figures "5"

On the cylinder head, there is a square, but I did not see if there is an oblique line or not

Here's the versions. If it's post 76 it should be plain 2.0.

but the life of alfa is often hectic, so the cylinder head may not be original. I confirm a squere, but not sure 1600 or 2000...

Later 2.0 eg from a late S2 spider are AR01615 though. At least the US version.

looking at your photo I can see a '6' (not a zero) before the 55

My new guess therefore is:
AR01655 then the serial begins with a zero: 023679

and that would be a 2.0 litre from a 116 Alfetta or 116 Giulietta (from about mid 1970s through to the mid 1980s)
with dellortos it will be EU, not USA

Not agree.

Look at the 6 in the serial number and you will find that the figure before 5 is 0. The first two figures are 0.
Yes EU engine, but strange number type for me...

Or maybe it's 0530 (more correct). I have to check again, but I'm not close to the car.

Those are not Alfa engine stamps..... it's a home stamping job

Compare it to your own cars stamp fonts and you will see the difference

Agree, the number is home made.

But what they have choosen 0550 and not 0512 ?? Where can this 0550 idea come from ?

Anyway, we started the restoration of the car and the engine is definitively 2.0 liter.
