I've used Yamaha (Denso) coils from an (well, 1 and a half) R6(s).
They are the perfect length but needed a reducing bush at the top because they are smaller than the sparkplug tubes. I made the bushes out of 3/4" nylon chopping board.
***Note that I've not used the car like this.***
I used coils from 2006 model bikes.
Interwebz research suggested that pre-2006 used CDI type ignition systems and coils that are specifically designed for CDI get killed by the longer dwell time of transistor switched ignition systems.
My understanding is that Yamaha went to transistor switched ignition because CDI apparently struggles to cleanly ignite leaner air/fuel mixtures. Though that is probably less of an issue with a multiple strike CDI system.
1 nice thing about having the Denso coils is that getting new plugs and pins for them is easy enough. And they are only a 2 wire coil, which keeps the wiring nicer.
In the famous Motronic thread I found this old chart that shows the stock advance data at different charges.
Where these data confirmed in some way?
From the chart we would conclude that the max advance at WOT is only 20 degrees or so...
I'm seeking advice on changing the oil in my 1971 Spider 1750.
I know this is a really basic thing, so let me provide a bit of backstory. The car was my dad's, he was the second owner from about 1973. I still remember riding in the back "seat" when I was kid. About 1983, it...
There is alot of information about the 123ignition distributor scattered through a number of threads. I decided to sum up my experiences after 22 months and 15k miles of use.
This is the distributor that is sold by IAP for a little over $400. It is also available from some of the European Alfa...
So after over 12 years I’m finally getting my Alfa Romeo Spider S3 1987 back together. It’s been a long long road with several issues and mounting costs.. I should add that she is a Bosch FI engine.
So today’s task was to turn the engine over for the first time for years. I followed...
