He originally posted it two months ago asking $2700. There are 4 successive posts with the price lower & lower.

I was thinking i could stick it in the garage and tinker all winter then turn it around next summer.

Voila, winter project, another Alfa on the road, & $1,000 in my pocket towards my next project.

The non-running issue could become a lot more involved than "timing" the engine but it sounds like he had the head rebuilt and never got around to hooking everything back up. If he's had it for sale for two months, why didn't he just get it running during that time if it's no big deal? Even so, pretty hard to go wrong at that price if you're mechanically inclined and the rust free description is accurate.

If there ever was a bargain this is it. What are you waiting for?

Best regards, Elio
You wont know ,until you check it out, bring cash, haggle him down a little more.
the motor is not that complicated, it looks clean and cheap, if you want one its good if your not sure you want one its bad. go & look at it. KR
There are true situations when a car is deeply discounted for an immediate sale, and this Spider seems to be one of those cases. It's certainly worth a look, as even as a parts car, I see more than $1400 worth...

Best regards,
A wise man (Bob Oliver) told me that any car that doesn't run is a parts car. Don't treat this as an investment treat it as a parts car. Ya, you might get lucky and find an easy fix but then again you could hit Power Ball. Odds are about the same.

Please go look for a good running Alfa to start your romance with. Figure on spend about 5k+. Not a bad price when you think about what you are getting. If you need a parts car down the road then look for a parts car.

Drew
check it out and let us know
You could get at least $2.5k from it if you parted it. I would buy it and get it running so that you can check out the gearbox and engine - oil pressure, etc. then decide if you want to drive it or part it. $1300 is a steal.

great advice
Thanks for the replies.

It was never anything i was looking for but man is it tempting. I already have a little red 82 that brings me joy on a daily basis so it would be a car to tinker on.

I definitely wouldn't have the time to part it & sell it piece-meal, and i'd never take a spider off the road that had life left in her anyway.

I'm thinking i'm going to have to pass. If it indeed turned out to be more than i could handle mechanically i'd be up the creek because my nearest alfa mechanic is 60 miles away.

If anyone wants me to go check for rust, etc let me know.

Depends on how you look at it.

If the one can be sacrificed for the many, it might be a bigger warm fuzzy.

I mean you could throw $ at it to get it up and running again sure, or, you could part it (for $) and get 5-10 other up and running.

(not that I'd ever break one down that stood a chance mind you)
If I were local (and if I had room....) I would buy this car NOW.
Just stay away from this one -

$3000 piece of crap - no engine/transmission.

Geez - maybe I can get $20k for my Quad!!!

im considering buying it from california just to have the gearbox and spare engine block. maybe some of those nice body parts as well.

1300$ barely covers the cost of a head-rebuild.
I'd sooner have this as an investment,

I've looked at this ad repeatedly for two months. You're closer than I am, so how about taking a close look and remove the temptation!
I'd be happy to take a look for you if you want.
picked this one up.

Well I picked this one up. I live in Eugene and a friend sent me the link.
I think this was a great deal. Started tearing into this and found that there is very little wrong so far. Few missing nuts and bolts, but the car is completely rust free, top is nice and no dings on the body even a new radiator. Found an injector boot that was put on wrong so the hope is that it'll run very soon. there was one part, as I am new to Alfa's, (more of Porsche guy) that has me stumped, if someone is willing to help me identify it, I'll post a picture of it.
Thanks
