What am I hearing?

The car is a GTV-6 (with a recent engine transplant from a Milano and a bit tweeked.)

Sounds like a clicking or ticking noise.

The noise is associated with road speed, i.e. long intervals between at low speed and shorter intervals as speed increases.

Application of the brake does not dampen the noise.

The noise does not vary with engine revs or with which gear the car is in.

The noise continues unchanged when coasting and the engine is on.

The noise disappears entirely when coasting with the engine is switched off.

Can anyone help me with a diagnosis?

Might it be the mileage counter device for the O2 sensor reminder? It is located under the dash on the right side. It is used to light the O2 sensor light every so many miles (30K I think) to remind you to have it checked/replaced. You can unplug the wire or pull its fuse to make it stop counting/ticking.
