Hello Everyone,

So last weekend I took out my seized water pump and put in a refurbished water pump that I bought at Kragen. After about 15 minutes, I noticed that oil was leaking from the mech tach drive, so I ordered a new rubber seal for inside tach drive and that didn't solve anything. Since then I've removed the tach drive from the water pump about 10 times each time trying a new gasket, or increased the amount of silicone gasket maker or decreased the amount of silicone gashet maker, or putting a rubber ring inside, or using different bolts. I've let is sit overnight a few times before starting the engine. All techniques have failed, each time I start the engine and wait about 3 minutes oil comes leaking out of the tach drive.
My last solution is to buy a new water pump, but I'm afraid that my might not solve anything, am I missing anything??

I think there is a drain hole to send oil back into the sump. Perhaps that drain hole is clogged? Gobs of RTV/silicone is not good for the inside of the engine. A small amount of silicone could be making an effective cork to plug that drain hole.

Thanks Eric, well I took out the tach drive and made sure that hole was clean with a wire hanger. Looks like it was pretty clean.
From reading that post from Vintre, looks like all I would have to do is spray about 5 coats of the Permatex Spray sealant. Can this be it? Well I'll give it a shot.

Problem Solved

I solved the tach drive leak problem by returning the water pump I bought at Kragen and installing a brand new water pump from IAP! Learned my lesson (and only a $20 difference)

Frankly I don't see why the water pump would have made any difference - althought the tach drive bolts to the water pump, the pump doesn't have anything to do with the functioning of the tach drive.

I agree with ghnl. Probably when you installed the Kragen pump, the oil return hole got plugged. Fortunately when you installed the IAP pump it remained clear. Doubt this was the fault of the Kragen pump.

But hey, glad to hear that it's working OK now, for whatever reason.
