I am in search of a rear view mirror with mounting arm for my 1974 GTV.
The original is made by Marini according to the markings on the back of it.

The original mirrors were silver paint over steel. The painting process was apparently of poor quality, as they quickly showed surface rust on the mirror body. I have several that will need repainted, but are fine otherwise. $30 shipped US.I am in search of a rear view mirror with mounting arm for my 1974 GTV.

Why don't you post a picture of your original mirror.I am in search of a rear view mirror with mounting arm for my 1974 GTV.

The silver paint was on the door RVM. Until the pictures came up, my mind was on the round, painted mirror that everyone had to replace.Ok of all my Marini GTV mirrors I have only one like yours all a part. No back, good plastic ball socket. Rest are different stronger design but might adapt.
Do not know how they assembled your type. Will plastic ball socket and ball pass thru hole in back. I think not.
I may take you up on one of these.Ok of all my Marini GTV mirrors I have only one like yours all a part. No back, good plastic ball socket. Rest are different stronger design but might adapt.

Yes, this is a bit of a puzzle. And I only see new mirrors that have the threaded ball stem. What I may need to do is to tap threads into my current hanger, or find the other type of hanger and buy a new mirror from one of the parts suppliers. Not sure yet what I am going to do...The other (later??) Style has wrench flats on the ball stem that screws into the hanger. So presumably the ball is fitted to the back with screws and the protruding stem is screwed into the hanger.
Your type does look an assembly puzzle. Maybe the plastic was hot moulded around the metal ball after it was put through the hole in the back or the ball was some how attached to the hanger, screw and glue???
The screw spacing in the back looks to be the same on both types but the big hole for the stem seems to have different size for each type.
