If I pull the dipstick out, the engine doesn't die- does that mean I have some vacuum leaks somewhere? Intake boot is new...

Car runs fine...

It won't usually die but if there is a vacuum or intake air leak the idle might deteriorate (slower/rougher).

Try removing the oil fill cap. That introduces a bigger air leak. If the idle does NOT deterorate it is likely because there is already an air/vacuum leak.
