Interesting, and I agree.

My wife's father was an engineer/designer on that Wasp engine. Could you imagine doings a valve job on that thing?

They did leave out the big WWII Allison V-12 engine, a large version of the Ferrari V-12, on steroids for sure, cleaner than the complicated Rolls version. They are a beautiful engine, single overhead cams, 60 deg V-12. When painted up as we used to use in the Unlimited Hydro's, very gorgeous in looks and sound (esp with short exhaust stacks, lol).

I am of the opinion that the 12 valve engine is better looking. And it was not a transverse design. Not the the orientation of the engine is relevant to its appearance. Is a radial engine transverse or not?

A radial engine is inline with the direction of drive, but then so is a transverse automobile engine. All inline automobile engines have to be transverse to the direction of drive, which is inherently less efficient.

The Alfa V6 looks so good people will put them in a lot of things.
