Yesterday after doing some work on the suspension of our 156 twinspark, I was reversing in to the drive .there was an unpleasant graunching sound followed by a bang. the car started running hot while idling. a visual inspection found nothing and the car seems to be running fine. a short drive and the car wasn't running hot but again when in the driveway it went hot. my question is could the water pump have seized and then basically broken the impeller. do they seize? other than the hot running it seems fine. one thought was a balance shaft belt let go but that wouldn't cause the overheating. any feedback on water pump issues with the twinspark would be appreciated.

cheers Ian
