I was a little surprised by what they said about the 8c2900B MM. They gave the impression an 8c2900B MM did not win the 1938 Mille Miglia. One did; it just was not the Ralph Lauren car. His car came in 2nd, driven by Carlo Pintacuda. Biondetti won the race in a virtually identical car.

Say what you will about Ralph Lauren and his money. He has been a SERIOUS car collector for a very long time. Way before it was "cool" to do so. He has some of the most stunning cars in the world today...

It has always been cool to have a unique car. It was always "cool" to have a hot rod. But a Ralph Lauren was around cars since Seinfeld was in diapers. Collecting has taken on a new life. Some collect a certain marque (Seinfeld, Steve Mcqueen/Porsche), some collect unique valuable cars (Leno). Lauren collects cars that are a reflection of him and his business. All of his cars are things of beauty, style, grace and speed. Ralph Laurens' GTO alone (IMHO, one of the most beautiful cars ever made) last I knew, was worth in the $15 million range. That puts him in a SERIOUS collector league that is more in bed with an art collector, which many of his cars are. Pure art.....By the way, does anyone know when the next showing of The Discovery Channel Ralph Lauren special will be shown out west here?? I missed it....

I'd put his D type Jag and his Testa Rossa in the same league as the GTO when it comes to great lines. I'm not as fond of the pre-war cars.
