Does anyone out there have a suggestion for a replacement to the tar like material that is used for sound deadening and heat insulation around the transmission tunnel and the floorboards? I have done some "modifications" and need to replace some of the old insulation that did not survive.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Hey thank you all for the good ideas. I'll be deciding what to do in the near future and if there is any interest on the BB I'll do up a photo-documented thread on my "modification."

Nahhhh noting as bulky as an automatic, besides a sports car with an automatic? Sounds like something a friend of mine would do. I stuffed a Ford Motorsport t-5 in there. As to the tunnel I am reinforcing it and will install a new piece of sheet metal to replace what I removed for additional clearance. It should be almost good as new. The Turbo... Still working on that and getting closer. Maybe..... by the beginning of summer.
