Hello,

I have an oportunity to purchase a thrashed '69 GTV from Maine
but it has been sitting for some time ( i.e. decades ) and the
owner doesn't have paperwork.

Maine Registry is researching the VIN number for me to see
if they can establish the ownership and will cooperate in
re-registering ( in MA ) if that is the case.

My question is :
Is there a national registry of VIN numbers and last registered owners ?
Does CarFAX go that far back ?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I got my '66 GTV with no paperwork whatsoever. In Utah, I filled out a lot of paperwork with the state, in particular how I got the car, why it had no title and I eventually got a title in the mail. Maybe your state has something similar.

Hoorah for UTAH!....a state where public servants actually work for the public and actually believe the citizenry?....sounds too good to be true!

Thanks folks for the input.
I'll chase these down and let you know how it comes out.
Don't think MA will go the route of Utah, but will explore
all the options.

best
