I recall in older motors the two gears in the lower chain were supposed to be marked for alignment. My AR 1500 series has no marks on either sprocket, and I can’t see how it would matter — am I missing something obvious?

No timing required on the lower chain sprockets

Yeah, why Alfa required that is a mystery. Just built my 60 Veloce motor and it has the marks, and I did line them up, but with the vernier on the cam sprockets it makes zero difference. Eventually they stopped marking the gears.

Was it for mech fuel pump?
No, that wouldn't require any phase synchronization.

Yea, even though I know it's irrelevant, I always line them up too. Maybe we'll get extra points in Alfa Heaven.
