to the spark plug tips:eek:. I replaced plugs last night. First time swapping out the NGK 7's after replacing the  "Golden" Lodges from the time they fouled shortly after I purchased the car. FWIW, I'll index them  not facing the valves. By the looks of the insulator, next time I should try 6's or ;) always keep the car in a lower gear:)

I've been running NGKs for 30 years and haven't had a problem yet. I've used both projected tip and the more shallow ones, without any issues.

I'm amazed that you guys keep having fouling problems with any recommended plug type.

My father used to be a service manager for Alfa Romeo (for a short while) and fouling was always caused by owners not giving the car a friggin rev every now and then ... especially with Alfa 33's. Used to really pee him off. Basically a lap around the block driven like an Alfa Romeo should be driven solved the problem ... Alfa's are designed to burn a little oil (like a lot of european cars), thus the ocassional full rev out in say 2nd or 3rd is mandatory.

There is that great article somewhere about an Alfa being thrashed constantly in Italy by it's happy Italian owner, never giving any trouble versus the pampered version in our countries constantly needing tuning, etc. My father would 100% agree ...

I use the Bosch Super-4 plugs and I think they are great. Better still, they are far more available in run-of-the-mill shops than the NGK plug and the gap doesn't need setting. I also think my motor runs better on them. As a second-best, I'd use NGK BP7ES as recommended by my original (Alfa factory apprentice, Ferrari GP race mechanic, Alfa main dealership) Alfa specialist.
