i recently had my 1300 engine rebuilt a i am wondering why my coolant gage is showing the coolant about 20 degrees warmer than the thermostat opens up at is that normal or is it something with the gage or temperature sensor i know that its suspose to be hotter than what the thermostat is but i don't know by how much.

68 Alfa,

I can tell from experience (I drive a 1300 ti '69) that you can visually see the temp gauge dropping as the thermostat opens up. Since my car is a no runner for the moment (rebuilding the engine), i cannot tell you for shure if a drop of 20 degrees is normal...but If your gauge indicates around 90 degrees at warm up, everything is fine....regarding your coolant temp!
